About
Spade & Palacio is a collaboration of two born and raised, young Montrealers who are passionate about our city and love to show it. We originally met during our guiding classes and bonded over a shared interest and intention of having our visitors walk away with a day in the life of a local experience. Three years later we decided to take matters into our own hands and the company was born. It’s simple; we take our guests away from the mains, our tours are non-touristy. We want to showcase unknown parts while promoting local, young and women entrepreneurs on our walking food tours and your local guide’s favorite parts of town on our bike tours. Unlike other companies, we guarantee intimate groups of 10 or less. We hire only local and licensed fun guides. You aren’t sheep we herd around town, you’re our guests and we keep it human scale, authentic and real.

Danny was an excellent tour guide- informative and humorous. Starting in Old Town set the stage with a bit of history, architecture and time in the Basilica.
From there it was a great deal of walking with explanations of the city connections and neighborhoods, a tasty bao bun in Chinatown and views of several amazing graffiti art images.
Danny encouraged questions and ensured that everyone in the group felt connected, comfortable and was enjoying themselves. I highly recommend the Beyond the Basilica walking tour.

Tom is an amazing guide. We didn’t feel like we were on a touristy walking tour but going for a walk with a very knowledgeable and fun friend. The little gestures of a bao and coffee were great. Tom introduced us to different neighborhoods, stories about their histories and nuances that we wouldn’t have known. It was truly beyond the beautiful Basilica.

We highly recommend this tour!

The food tour was one of the best we have done. There was so much food to try! And it was not touristy food, but rather what the locals eat. We tasted everything from pupusas from El Salvador to cannolis, sorbet, to local meats and cheeses. YUM! The whole family gave this tour a 10! Rodrigo was fantastic - gave us lots of information and was very social and engaging. He made the tour even better! We highly recommend this tour.

This was suggested by a colleague, and is not necessarily something I would have booked without a recommendation. However, I am so glad that we did because it was very interesting to learn about the murals, artist, and some of the history of Montreal. I would definitely recommend this tour. Our guide Rod (Rodrigo) was fun, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about everything.

Great walking tour to see many parts of Montreal in a compressed time. Was great being able to walk in to Notre Dame and not wait on line. Rod gave a great description of everywhere we went. Learned so much about the city. Would highly recommend if you want to take a tour of the city. Just make sure to pack comfortable shoes, a lot of walking in a short time.

We had a wonderful experience. Danny was the BEST- informative, funny & just a wonderful ambassador for the city. What a difference it makes when the tour is by a local. All the food was amazing & what a variety! After the tour we went to a bakery Danny recommended, got baguettes & then back to the cheese booth he had taken us to earlier. Picked up some fruit as well & it was the perfect snack later that night. We also popped into one of the local shops Danny had pointed out while walking & my daughter got a print that will be a wonderful reminder of our trip.

The mural tour exceeded our expectations! We've taken many self-guided mural tours in other cities, but this was the first time we've gone on a guided tour. What a difference this made -- learning about the artists and their motivation made it much more interesting, and our guide, Mel, made it a lot of fun. She's great -- warm and engaging, and so knowledgeable about all aspects of street art. Highly recommend this tour, for both first time and veteran visitors.

We enjoyed our tour with Mel - we've visited Montreal many times but this tour introduced us to neighborhoods and local culture we would not have seen/learned about on our own. The murals are beautiful and the history surrounding them is quite interesting. There wasn't a tour scheduled for the time we were available so we reached - they setup a special time for us, and three others ended up joining. Great customer service. I highly recommend!

After 3 day’s of a jam packed itinerary in Montreal (art galleries , a hockey game, a concert, touring old Montreal and the port) we had considered cancelling our pre booked Beyond the market tour to rest and recuperate for an afternoon. Boy are we glad we didn’t as we were the only two people that day and had a wonderful intimate tour with the charming Rodrigo or Rod as he likes to be called. He had a wonderful smile and pleasant disposition. He was very attentive and knowledgeable thru out the tour and we had a lovely afternoon. We purchased a few items for some of the establishments we visited to bring home as they were so good. We are so glad we went and recommended this tour to anyone that likes food and good company.
