About
This elevated area offers panoramic views of Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. Winter adrenalin junkies line up by the thousands at Les Glissades de la Terrasse to experience the rush of zooming downhill from 270 feet high (82 meters) in a toboggan speeding up to 60 mph (90 kilometers per hour) to the bottom 500 feet (152 meters) away. Located on the Dufferin Terrace overlooking the St. Lawrence River behind Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the ride is open from mid-December through late March.

- AustintoBostonBoston, Massachusetts281 contributionsLovely ViewLovely panorama of the St Lawrence River, which was dotted with sheets of ice. We did the toboggan that rides alongside the river (not sure if this is available all winter or just during the Winter Carnival). It was a Saturday morning so we waited for a good 30 minutes or so in line. A pretty thrilling experience while you are riding downhill.Visited February 2023Written February 25, 2023
- Alan SNew York City, New York163 contributionsIncredible views of the riverWe stayed at the Chateau Frontenac and enjoyed walking the terrace. The views overlooking the St. Lawrence and the city of Levi are spectacular. If you park in the lower town make use of the funicular if the walk up to the Upper Town is too strenuous for youVisited July 2023Written July 20, 2023

- TERRAvelistaLondon, United Kingdom17,535 contributionsGreat place to have a strollA great place to relax in the sun or in the shade with great views over the water and the Lower town. You can take the funicular from here (right near the statue, located in the glass house) to reach the Lower town, or you can wall all the way to the Citadel (the entrance is on the opposite site though, if you want to visit it). Lots of information about the origins of the terrace and several musicians to entertain you. A very romantic place, if you like history and it reminds me of so many historic European cities. To one side, there are several hotels, some older than others, with probably bird eye view over this whole location.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 29, 2023

Lovely area to look down on the river and the lower town, though you can’t avoid the Disney hotel.
We walked the length of it, all the way to the Promenade des Gouverneurs.

The Terrasse Dufferin is a boardwalk along the river in front of the Chateau Frontenac. It gives lovely views and is a very enjoyable walk. We did it by day and night while staying in the old city. A must do while in Quebec.

Spectacular views over the Saint Lawrence river.
A nice walk, especially on a sunny day. You can understand why the first settlers chose this strategic location.

Wonderful views of the St. Lawrence, mountains in the background, and the Fairmont. In winter, there is a toboggan slide set up here, which is super fun and highly recommend. In any season, there's a lot to do around this area of Quebec City, so be sure to check it out

A lovely place to walk and enjoy the views and breeze. Street performers are here too, so there's always something to watch. Lots of benches for sitting and enjoying the atmosphere.

To the left of Chateau Frontenac if you are facing the St. Lawrence River.

Is the Terrasse Dufferrin the same as the Promenade du Gouvernuers?

The Terrace Dufferin is the very large boardwalk that runs in front of the magnificent Chateau Frontenac. As you walk down the boardwalk to the east it narrows and then you come to a set of stairs that go up the side of the cliffs to the Promenade des Gouverneurs at the top - actually a part of the Citadelle. At the very top you can see the very best view in Quebec from the perfectly placed Cap Diamants - just in front of the Governor General's residence in the Citadelle. So - in fact - the Promenade is the upper extension of the Dufferin Terrace. Certainly well worth the climb.
