Hidden gem. World so unlike ours. One of dedication to others and to contemplation. A key pillar of Quebec society. Oh and free. A cafe appeared to offer quick means or snacks.

We came here one rainy day. It is a few blocks away from the hotel Frontenac. It is a large, beautiful religious museum! Lots of statues, historic information on the nuns, what they did, what they wore, and amongst other things--historic medical supplies. I doubt kids would be interested in coming to this museum.
There's a big, beautiful chapel inside, and lots of historic information about the hospital that was there, etc. It's a very large museum, and if you enjoy religious museums, you could spend a few hours here easily! You will see all the old woodwork in the building near the staircase.
Here's a tip!! Be sure to allow time to shop in their gift shop. It's located near the entrance, it's not the largest, but it has some unique items to purchase!
Please press "helpful" if you found this review insightful, as I wonder if anyone actually reads these......

2018 was a busy year for me so by December I needed a way to unplug and reconnect with myself. I wanted to get away from social media and stop reaching for my phone every hour. This is the PERFECT place to do that. I stayed for 1 week in the beginning of December in one of the original rooms (shared bathroom). The room was simple and quiet. It lends itself to quiet reflection and good rest. There was a lovely cell phone case present in the room and I turned my phone off and tucked the phone in that case and just put it away. You also have the option to leave your phone at the front desk if you need a little extra incentive to disconnect. The shared bathrooms are modern with shower heads that can be handheld if needed. They were always very clean as well. The rooms and the bathrooms were spotless! If you prefer the modern day comforts of a bathroom in your room, they do have contemporary rooms as well for your comfort and while I didn't stay in one of those rooms, I'm sure they were spotless and comfortable as well.
There are some shared spaces where you can use a computer or watch TV if you would like, but after 2 days of having my phone off I came to relish the time without technology. I finished a knitting project, I read 5 books, I wrote in my gratitude journal and I also took a yoga class there. There are daily wellness programs/activities (yoga, meditation) and a daily breakfast taken in silence. Breakfast became my favorite part of the day. The herbal teas (tisanes) were delightful and the food offered is so healthy. This isn't the type of monastery where you have to stay put all day, so I took a daily walk around Quebec City just to get fresh air and do a bit of the 'tourist' thing, but I was always happy to come back to the peaceful monastery.
Even if you are not staying in the monastery as a guest you MUST go to the museum. I'm in the medical profession so a lot of the history connected to the hospital and healthcare was very interesting to me. However I think it would be interesting to anyone, no matter what the profession. There is so much to learn about the history of the monastery and the life of the nuns there and the surrounding hospitals that they founded. I went twice during my stay because I wanted to see it all again.
I could go on and on about how great this little gem is, but really you should just go and see it for yourself to appreciate it. Especially if you live on the East Coast of the US. It's a quick trip up to Canada, so you can refresh yourself over the course of a few days without flying halfway around the world.

Absolutely amazing! I was worried because I work on the road and sometimes, I am just not able to stick my head out of the screen, I thought they would have very strict policies about it, because of the nature of the hotel. That wasn't the case, everyone is super friendly and respectful, most of the staff members are very young and sweet. I initially booked 4 nights and I ended up staying for 7. The shared bathrooms are not a problem at all, I never waited to get in. The bed is HEAVEN to sleep in. My friends were very curious about the Monastery aspect of it, most of us are not religious, and even that part was interesting, it's all about respect and I think preserving and transforming this beautiful place was an amazing idea. The only feedback I would give is to please please please translate the daily menu. It's easier for everyone :) Thank you very much for your hospitality!

This is a great museum that displays both religious objects and historivcal objects. The museum is located behind a hospital founded by the Augustine nuns. The hospital is a sight in its own right with one half from the 17th century and the back of it being modern. 39 nuns still live in the complex caring for the patients. The museum includes a great chapel that is greatly decorated with wooden stalls. Enterance to the museum is free and comes with a tour. This is just another reason to visit the museum.

We stayed 5 nights. The two ladies at reception spoke very good Spanish, which surprised us. We encountered many more elsewhere where we went in Quebec that also spoke Spanish. We learned about the no talking policy at breakfast, which was included in our rate. Typically we discuss our plans for the day during breakfast, but we adjusted fine to the peaceful environment when there. There was enough variety of things to eat to not leave still hungry. There was always a vegetable omelet cut up in small pieces, along with some waffles. There was fruit, some cereals, breads, and other items as well. To drink, milk, coffee, water and I think juice as well. Some 15-25 persons were typically there when it was open. Our rooms were on the 4th floor, and had private bathrooms. Those on the 3rd shared bathrooms. The doors into those rooms were not very high. There was no tv or radio in our rooms. The ceiling of the rooms follow the roof slope, so if you wind up on the side of the bed on the building exterior you might have to watch your head. We visited the museum floors on our own, and it was very interesting. There is a guided tour available. On the grounds there is a space to sit surrounded by trees shielded from area noise. The hotel is in a very convenient location, one short block from the corner of Rue Saint-Jean and Rue de l’Hotel Dieu. About a block away there is also a pharmacy.

Le Monastere des Augustines The Municipal, Provincial and Canadian Federal Governments, under the pro bono guidance of several of Quebec City’s most distinguished hoteliers, invested nearly $60 million into a literally stunning restoration of this historic monastery in the heart of Old Quebec. Here, in the 1600s, on a hilltop inside the Walled City, the Augustinian nuns invented a system of health care that is the model for how health care is delivered in the civilized world in the twenty-first century.
Today, Les Monastere des Augustines is a not-for-profit, 65-room, wellness hotel and museum with a striking blend of historic and modern, industrial architecture. Though the comfortable accommodations (some of the “nun’s cells” have shared baths), are not for everybody, no one who has come to Quebec City to experience the rich history of New France should even think about leaving without a visit here.

We were attracted to this monastery when we learned they had a restaurant with good food in a serene setting. Turns out the museum and mastery is a fascinating place with a wonderful spa, great massage and good food. Very much worth a visit especially at lunch time.

This is one of the cleanest facility I have ever stayed. The grounds, the guest rooms are clean upon arrival. The service is outstanding and the food in the onsite restaurant is five stars. If you are looking for a place to relax mind, body, and spirit this is the right place for you to spend time.
