The entire trip was amazing. We were lucky enough to arrive for clear nights. The staff was kind and knowledgeable, the northern lights viewing location was fun and well-stocked. We really enjoyed our trip and the city tour. They don't tell you that they provide a professional photographer on viewing nights and the photos are FREE! All of our additional excursions were a blast - esp. the glass blowing and the snow mobiles. The providers of the Snow mobile tour were very safety conscious and fun guides.

If you are looking for a tour service to make your Whitehorse experience unforgettable, Northern Tales is it!
This has been hands down the most amazing trip. Northern Tales has absolute experts and handles everything you need to have an enriching Aurora experience. The guides we had (Aaron & Kevin) were so knowledgeable and personable, and they were greatly loved and appreciated by everyone in our group.
I also highly recommend booking the husky rush through them for a seamless once in a lifetime opportunity at Sky High Wilderness Ranch. You even get to pet as many dogs as you want 🤓
Thanks again for everything!

Your company is outstanding! My great experience began with being picked up the first day! The driver was prompt, personable, and well informed. She introduced herself, made sure that passengers were comfortable and safe.
She insured that everyone bucked their seatbelts. She told us the amount of time that it would take to arrive at our destination. She also said that she would drive safely for the road conditions. That made me feel safe!!
Once there we were given an orientation, taken to our cabin and told about the snacks and beverages as well as the lavatory facilities. The availability of tripods for filming was also mentioned.
Once everyone went out to watch the sky assistance was given on how to set and use our cameras. We were also given an opportunity to be photographed by our guide.
We went out for three days. All our guides were EXCELLENT!!! If my memory serves me well the names of our guides in order were Mayumi, Helen, and Kathy.
I especially loved our last guide. I think that her name was Kathy.

I started planning my trip four months in advance, and the office team at Northern Tails was incredibly helpful, walking me through various day trip options, helping confirm travel dates, as well as making sure we had the right clothing and accessories to have a perfect trip.
From the moment we landed at Whitehorse to our final goodbye at the airport four days later, the staff was beyond compare. Anila, Tom, Emma, Erika, Tyler, and everyone else on the team are so freaking wholesome and helpful.
We got incredibly lucky with the weather and aurora activity, leading to memories that will last a lifetime. Oh, and they provide free professional photographs of the aurora viewings, so we'll have pictures to go with our memories.
Whitehorse is a beautiful town, and as a member of the LGTBQIA2S+ community, I was so thankful to see the pride and trans flags on Main and Third St. Seeing them warmed my heart and made me feel safe and welcomed. The tour guides and office staff used my preferred name and pronouns without hesitation, and stood out as exemplary allies.
100% recommended, and I'll definitely be booking a longer trip with them in the future!

We loved our time with Northern Tales. First and foremost, your "hosts" were FANTASTIC. Helpful, knowledgeable, personable, accepting, and so genuine. Katie, Kevin, Emma and Ekiko(sp?)
We loved the "camp experience" viewing the aurora. We were really pumped that you had warming huts, a fire, and a great view of the aurora!
We also really enjoyed the "wildlife tour" and appreciated Bernie's explanations. Interestingly, We were concerned that we would see animals in enclosures like a zoo, but it was really not and the views were excellent.
We also were so pumped after being at the dog sled facility. That was more than we expected, and even though we passed on being a musher ourselves, we had a ball. The "hosts" there were phenomenal. We so enjoyed interacting with them. If they aren't a part of Northern Tales, please share that with them.
Suggestions: maybe not important, and maybe not your decision, might have been ours, but we would have enjoyed some more "free time." We wanted to visit the Indigenous Museum, but couldn't work it in. Katie told us about it on our "City Tour" but we didn't know about it yet when we cancelled our ice fishing afternoon. Would have been a perfect time to visit.
Other than that, we're already talking about coming back. We've viewed the pictures from last night and what is expected in the next week should be FANTASTIC. So, Keep Up the Good Work.
Thanks for everything and keep up the good work!

My experience last night was fantastic. Emma and Yuki were super.
This was a bucket list item for me and it definitely delivered.
Tip: can’t really see the true colours with your naked eye. Need a good quality camera or new smartphone to take proper pictures and see all the aurora colours.

I did the nightly tours they offer for 3 nights from 18-20 March 2023 hoping I would get lucky one of those 3 nights as I timed my trip around the new moon. I saw the auroras on 2 of those nights - the 18th and the 20th. The sky was overcast on the 19th. It was an absolutely magical experience - all that I imagined it would be and more !
The northern tales do a fantastic job with their operations. They picked and dropped me off at my hotel on time. Their communications team (Anila, Erika) are prompt and courteous with their responses during and after booking. Their guides - Katie, Kevin, Uri and Emma are awesome at what they do. The free camera photos they take and provide for download after the experience is very much appreciated.
I would absolutely recommend them to my friends and family.

Our group did the Winter Adventure tour & all six of us loved it. Great facilities for viewing the aurora / excellent guides/ exhilarating skidoo trip [safe & lots of fun]/ the dog mushing was sublime and the nature preserve really interesting [even got to see an arctic fox and some Lynx]
All very well organised and run.
Highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting a Yukon experience.

Amazing experience, so well organised, the guides take you out to a lovely location with cosy huts, fire pits, hot drinks & snacks etc. We saw a spectacular display, a truly memorable occasion, can highly recommend.

Hi looks really interesting. Thinking of going in either Feb or March of next year 2021. Coming from Quebec I’m sure we don’t have to quarantine. Are there rooms with 2 single beds?

Hi. In whitehorse we stayed at the Best Western Rush Inn and it worked for us and that is what we were assigned for the tour. It is a hotel of the 90´s with spacious rooms, but it already needs remodeling. On the site of sighting, they are nice cabins where you can have coffee, tea, chocolate and cookies.

Hello!
I plan to travel to Yukon in August 2020.
I want to see aurora, but will the aurora float between 23rd and 29th August 2020?
If I can see the Northern Lights, I want to join your tour. And I wonder when should I make a reservation. It's two people including me.
Is it too late to reserve the tour when we arrive in Whitehorse?
Northern-Tales
Whitehorse
Hi Yenny, thank you very much for your message. Yes, August 2020 is a good time to see the aurora. In order to make a reservation or for us to provide you with more detailed information I kindly ask you to send us an e-mail. Thank you very much and we are looking forward to hearing from you soon. Are the dates of November 13 and 14 good nights to catch the Aurora Borealis ?

It really depends on the weather. If the skies are not clear you will not see them. We were told that from mid Oct to mid Dec there seems to be more unsettled weather and your chances are not as good. Check and see when the Fall Solstice is and that usually is a good time as well. Yellowknife is better than Whitehorse for seeing them.

Hi Northern Tales, can please check if teenagers (aged 14 to 17) are able to operate the snow mobiles and dog sleds? Thanks.
Northern-Tales
Whitehorse
Hi there! The minimum age to drive a snow machine is 16 years and it is then still the guide who makes the final decision, based on the physical conditions and maturity of the teenager. The 14 year old as well as the 17 year old can drive a dog sled. Thank you!

If you organise your viewing with adventure companies such as Northern Tales, you can hire heavy duty winter gear for CAD 150. Good luck!
