The longest wooden fish ladder is impressive, even though this time of the year there are no fish. Still worth a visit if you are close, certainly will be more interesting next month.

Closed since covid . Can't see much but river is beauty . Nothing else to say it was closed. Requiring more data to fill the box makes people hate trip advisor

We just happened upon this while walking the Millenium trail. The staff explained the research being done as well as how the fish ladder works - all took less than 10 minutes, and we saw a couple of fish go through. If you are in the neighbourhood, definitely stop in - especially during salmon running season. You can follow their research on Facebook - Whitehorse Fish Ladder.

OK so I looked this up before we drove through in May. It said to view the camera online that it was shut since covid.
You can drive right up and park and walk up to the damn and view the ladder. In May there are no salmon but online you can view the other fish going through. We wanted to see it in person. Then you walk up the road and see the tunnel where the fish come out of to go on the journey where they were born. There were lots of boards explaining it. Pretty cool. A good 20 minute visit. Maybe it will open soon. You can check on their website

I never actually heard of a fishway before taken this trip! It was winter so the fishway was underwhelming but still neat to learn about. I imagine it's awesome in spring when the salmon are running.

Saw this briefly as oart of a city tour ru by Northern Tales. Not much to see but fascination that it is so long, but at least Whitehorse has made the effort to help salmon migrate. Sad to hear that there are so fewer salmon around these days.

If you are in the area when the chinook salmon are making their way through the longest wooden fish ladder in the world it is a neat thing to watch. The man made passageway was made to allow the salmon to get past the dam and lay their eggs.

Beautiful location, friendly staff, information on interpretive signs interesting to the whole family.
If you can visit when fish are actively using the structure...you’ll get the best experience.

Yes you could look online for Whitehorse Fishway. When you get there don't forget to walk up to the top of the damn, gives you a better idea of how high the fish have to climb and how long the ladder is.

Pop over to the tourist info building on 2nd ave from there cross the Yukon River bridge and continue to walk past the school to the round about turn right the follow the road past Christ the King School on the left and the apartments on the right, continue for about 4 blocks and the fish ladder in a small hut. beyond that is the dam. On your return to the city watch for the foot bridge on the left, take that and follow the lovely foot path along the Yukon river and held back into town. Its a lovely walk and will take you about 1 hour.
