The highlight of a recent trip to the Yukon was a four day/three night horse packing trip into the Grizzly Mountain Miners Range with Armin and his niece, Mykaela, as guides. Mandy (Armin’s wife), their children, Armin’s parents and two nieces were very much included in this adventure as this family is a team and they were there to send us off on our journey and warmly greet us on our return. Watching Armin and Mandy’s family work together was as much a gift as the horse packing trip! Such warm, welcoming, kind, knowledgeable, experienced, friendly and down to earth wholesome folks.
The horse packing trip through meadows, forests, wetlands and up into the mountains was so incredible and beautiful. I loved the rhythm and pace Armin set, the chance to explore new trails, taking time to identify native plants and trees, view the numerous beaver dams, enjoy the lakes, streams and bogs and, of course, take in the awesome views every minute of the day.
I loved the teamwork of horses, riders (there were four of us), dogs and the leadership of Armin and Mykaela. I loved the food (great cooking Armin!), the campfire chats and the easy comraderie we had.
I truly didn’t want our ride to end. I loved it!
Thank you Armin, Mandy and family for sharing your passion and your lifestyle. Special thanks to Mykaela for your extra TLC.

I had an awesome three day horse packing trip with Yukon Horse Packing. The owners are super friendly. The two guides Justin and Scott were very seasoned horsemen. The riding was a lot of fun. Narrow winding trails, traversing streams and ponds with water up to the horses belly. We made it up to the top of a small mountain on day 2 with 360 degree views as well as two other hillsides with amazing views in different directions. The base camp equipment (tents and thermarests) were very good quality and in great shape. The base camp also has a larger prospectors tent with a wood stove which was really appreciated on the one evening that it rained as we were able to have dinner in a dry warm place.

Just to be clear - this is NOT glamping. This is a true wilderness pack trip. No showers, no running water but these are the kinds of trips that I love. The food was great and Mandy (the owner's baked goods) are super yummy.

If you want a great wilderness camping experience with some slightly more challenging riding (including some way finding and cutting of new trails) with some lovely mountain views, then don't hesitate to go wiith this company.

I cannot say enough kind things about this amazing family and their business operation. We had a great time!

Mandy, Armin and the kids were wonderful human-beings, the salt of the earth. My wife and I had a fantastic time spending a few nights staying at one of their cabins, we got the true Yukon experience. Waking up to a nice warm fire and enjoying a hot coffee while overlooking the spectacular views; watching the horses as they graze the fields with the mountains to their back, you cant make this up - it looks as if it was cut from a western magazine! A view that will forever be engraved in our minds.

They happened to be training the dogs for the upcoming race season one morning so we were fortunate enough to get on a training run with them and the dogs, this was surreal for us, very awe-inspiring. I have read some stories and watched some documentaries around this sort of stuff but actually got to live it in real time, thank you so much for that opportunity! we will never forget this. Erin has since started reading the book "Yukon alone" (about dog mushing) and hasn't been able to put it down lol.

The next day we enjoyed horseback riding in the beautiful mountains surrounding their property. Another childhood dream come true. The vast array of mountain range there (as the locals call it, grizzly mountain) was just breathtaking. I road smith and he was a super calm and experienced horse, his previous owner has a cool story to boot but his new owner Mandy is just badass, in a good way, and smith is in very experienced hands. Dam I miss smith :(. As a safety net I tend to pack extra and go prepared ( It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a Gardner in a war - thats just how my brain works from previous experiences of being stranded, lost and near death) but honestly I could have left in my underwear and felt safe. Mandy is a true outdoors lady and If I owned a film production company I would do a show called "Yukon-women" and she would be the main character. This lady knows her stuff and is very knowledgable in both dog mushing and with her horses. Mandy is confident and experienced in the outdoors and after having a good conversation with her during our ride we can see how very passionate she is about what she has accomplished in her life, rightfully so! She is proud and should be, I envy a women like this and could only hope my daughter grows up the same way! She would school most men I know thats for-sure and this includes me.

Armin is a gentlemen, also very experienced and that is obvious. You can see how confident he is in Mandy and they work together as a team to accomplish their goals, this is evident when you are there in person observing them. Him and his boys up early working around the property to keep everything well maintained for their guest and livelihood. His boys and girls (2 sons, 2 daughters) couldn't have been born into a better lifestyle. They already understand what work means and they are under 10, its amazing to see and more parents need to be like this with their children, its very important. One night we had a fire and the entire family came over to hang with us and it was awesome, their oldest son (dam I wish I remembered all their names lol) showed me how to maintain a good fire all while the younger brother sat there and observed. I was in awe! We woke up one morning and both their kids were unloading wood for our cabin , the confidence and work ethic for kids of that age was just amazing to experience. More southern Ontarians need to get to this place to learn some things.

At one point I was finally able to get Arnim alone so I can pick his brain a bit. These are the type of men I like to surround myself around, hardworking, loyal and honourable. 18yrs as a LEO and I have still haven't met this type of man. We talked about his experience in the backcountry and his dog racing. He was also kind enough to share some hunting stories, I was just a kid in a candy store taking it all in and enjoying every bit of the conversation.

Thank you for everything guys, we know life is getting silly these days but if anyone is doing it right, its you guys. I know you two will adjust accordingly with the times. Erin and I are very grateful that we have crossed paths in this lifetime. We hope to see you again, please keep in touch.

Ian and Erin.

Mandy and her staff were understanding and patient, working with me the day before to reintroduce me to riding after a horseback riding accident 5 years ago. The day of our 2 hour ride I was matched with a wonderful horse who gave me the most amazing experience as we traveled through Boreal forests to a scenic overlook with a mountain view that took my breath away. A short coffee break at the overlook, then back to the ranch. The day was beautiful, the company was great and my faithful steed Barney gave me back my love of horses and riding. Oh, and my husband loved the adventure as well, as it was his idea:)

We went on a 6 hour ride with lunch and then spent a night in one of their cabins that had the most amazing comfy mattress. We made cowboy coffee in our cabin and honestly from start to finish this hands down was one of the best highlights of our trip. The guides and the owners are fantastic. If you want a truly memorable time, this is your place! My husband was a complete rookie and afraid of horses, he rode Fancy and had the most wonderful experience. I rode Barney who was a fantastic horse. Thank you Mandy and Armin

We did the 3 day trip camping out for 2 nights. It was a great experience with really well schooled horses. Armin and Mandy were great and genuine outdoor people who had a really good attitude - safe but up for the adventure that a wilderness experience can bring.
I'd absolutely recommend them provided you are comfortable with being very much out with nature.

My girlfriend and I went on a 2h trip. It was great, the place is really into the wild of Yucon, and riding in the snow is a unique experience. Armin and Mandy were very hospitable and we were very well received, I recommend!

Went for a ride for 2 hours mother and daughter who is 6- in the first hour one horse took off the other direction and the lady behind me jumped off - the guide was nice and traded horses- but then the next one took off into the bush - threw her off and she hit her head so hard she blacked out - so needless to say we all walked back - then the owners didn't even contact me after - I texted to ask for half my money back after the traumatizing experience and apparently they don't do refunds - yeah right - bad. Business and it was downright dangerous. Wear a helmet people

We appreciate everyone's reviews on Trip Advisor. It was an unfortunate and unheard of experience for this incident to have happened with our horses. Our horses have had many unexpected encounters with wildlife and conditions in the wilderness over the years and have performed calmly and faithfully with guests on their backs. It is also unfortunate that the guest and daughter chose to walk home, as their horses had done nothing wrong. The affected person and horse in the incident were being attacked by wasps. Our guide who was on this ride confirmed that the horses were attacked by wasps from wasp nests which had developed in the ground on a couple places along one of the trails. Horses getting attacked by wasps may react to get away from the unexpected pain on their body. Our guides went out right after this incident and removed the nests and wasps from the trail. This year we have noticed an increase in nature of wasp nests and we have managed this by removing them immediately upon recognition. We do agree with this review that it is always a good idea to wear a helmet for safety reasons and encourage adult guests to do so.

I am a local resident in Whitehorse, Yukon and I loved my experience! My mother was visiting from New Brunswick, so I rented a cabin to stay in and we went on a Yukon Horseback Adventure. We enjoyed ourselves and the cabin experience completed our adventure with a warm fire and home cooked meal. I highly recommend visiting Yukon Horsepacking Adventures whether you are a local Yukoner or visiting this beautiful territory.
