If you travel this area via car or truck, stop and have a look out at this look out. You can take in so much of the river and the bay from here. Great place to take a few pics that can preserve a great memory of your drive.

Just a photo opp. But well placed as you may need a breather from driving if you're making the St. John's to Gander run.
There is a food truck there, but no bathrooms.

Pulled over here for a break and to enjoy the really great view. It was worth it. We could see many miles out over Freshwater Bay since it was a clear day. Give yourself a break and stop here.

Joey's Lookout is on the Trans Canada and is a nice spot to picnic, buy some local veggies or grab a snack from the chip van there. The views overlooking Gambo South are beautiful. There are a few displays with information to read about the area as well.

On our car trip through Newfoundland, we were looking forward to learning a bit more about Joey Smallwood, the man who lead Newfoundland into confederation with Canada, and its first premier when it became a province. So it was VERY disappointing to find out the most famous man in Newfoundland doesn't warrant even a rudimentary toilet at a roadside attraction dedicated to him. There's lots to see, a grand viewing balcony, and when we visited, not one, but TWO food vendors. But no toilets! :(

To be honest, the biggest attraction for me was the big picture of "Joey", the last father of Confederation (who helped bring Newfoundland into Canada in 1949). The lookout is situated quite close to his hometown Gambo. As for the lookout itself, it's nothing special, but does make for a good rest area if traveling on the Trans-Canada.

A perfect spot to pull off the Trans Can, stretch your legs, have a light lunch and enjoy the ocean view.

Driving west we did not stop as it was pouring rain but we were glad we stopped on the way back. The sun was shining and the view was incredible. Unlike other views you can see the town and railroad below. Lots of plaques explaining what you see.
