Always feel like I’m at the end of the world when I’m here. Great views, easy walking trails, and close to town. Wouldn’t be a visit to Mendo without stopping by.

Just north of the Golden Gate Bridge is the amazing Marin (County) Headlands. Well marked roads lead you to vista points, historic structures, and other natural attractions. Truly inspiring and a must do if traveling to the SF Bay Area.

We went on a Saturday morning, and although parts were fog-shrouded (we couldn't see much of the Golden Gate Bridge from Hawk's nest) other parts were clear. Easy to get away from crowds at the beach and get to nice hiking in the hills, with lots of wildflowers and beautiful coastal views. So close to the city yet feels like you're in the wilds,

We rented a car from San Francisco. Went to Muir Woods, Muir Beach Overlook and Stinson Beach before heading back to the Marin Headlands. I wish we had of had more time but we needed to be back in San Francisco for dinner.

In the headlands we stopped at the Nike Missile Site and got a great free tour. It was super interesting even for me who's not really into that sort of thing.

We tried to get to Bonita Lighthouse but it closed at 3:00pm and just missed it. We did walk out as far as we could and it was still great views.

We then made our way to Battery Spencer for great views of the golden gate bridge.

If you want beautiful pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and a backdrop of the City, head on here. Lot's of tours that take you here or take your own vehicle. There is ample parking in front. Its a short hike up the lookout point, take your time since there are so much places you can just stop and take in the view. Best vantage point of the Golden Gate from here.

Beautifule area with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge! My cousin took us here for a hike to the lighthouse, unfortunately the lighthouse itself was closed at the time. It didn't matter because we got to enjoy the gorgeous scenery, the fresh breeze, and some great views!

This is a great place for hiking or just to enjoy the view of the sea and the Bridge. So happy that it has not been developed. It can be cold and windy so bring a windbreaker.

On the North side of 101, after exiting the freeway, drive along the one way street until you get to Conzelman Road. (For details, use Google maps, or something similar.) You can find parking anywhere along the road, but try to get close to the 'Vista Golden Gate'. Around that area, park and take the short walk to 'Battery Spencer'. From this point, you get great views of the Golden Gate bridge, the Bay and the cliffs. The drive may take some time and it may be difficult to find parking, but it is worth it. The only downside, and it is a big downside, is that when we were there, several cars had smashed windows from break-ins. The police were there taking down information. So just be sure to not leave anything within sight, inside your car - and don't lock it in the trunk at this site where someone could watch you do that. Instead, bring it with you.

It was a challenging ride up there on my lame rental bike, but the views were amazing! Nice place to hike as well.

Marin headlands are one of the most beautiful areas in the San Francisco Bayregion. There is so much to see and do it's impossible to accurately evaluate it in one broad category, "Marin headlands." Unless you got a lot of energy, the best way to see the most in 1 day is by car.on the north side of the Golden gate Bridge, start your drive at the 5-minute tunnel and do the circuit. Go all the way to the end to point Bonita lighthouse, and climb up on the bluffs. Be careful there are plenty of places you can fall, and it would not be a pretty scene. But bring your camera and you will take some of the most amazing pictures.be sure to drive along the north side perpendicular to the Golden gate Bridge, and you will see some of the most shocking views of the Golden gate Bridge that you can imagine.

don't bring a drone. This is all Golden gate National recreation Area and drone flying is prohibited.

Read about the geology. If you do you'll get a lot more out of the visit. Know what you're looking at when you're looking at the amazing radiolarian chert. Radiolarian chert is the twisted angled Rock in inch 2 inch and a half layers..
