The castle ruins are perched on the hill. When you arrive at the sign for the castle, there is a lower parking lot and we saw people parking and walking. NO! Drive your car to the top and there is ample parking and no walking...More

The caste is reached by a beautiful narrow road. There is a lot of walking and lots of stairs at the castle. Lovely views of the Danube at top of castle. It would be interesting for history buffs and kids. We sat down at an...More

As part of our river cruise tour, we visited here after the Melk Abbey. Dating back to the 12th century, this is a ruined castle on the right bank of the Danube. It was a very hot afternoon and we were greeted with buskers and...More

The ruins of an old castle perched atop a steep hill, we were initially unsure how to get there as our sat-nav had informed us that it was on a road with limited access and signs at the bottom seemed to indicate that you couldn’t...More

We went as part of a group and some "busker entertainment" was provided. Great ruins which have been pretty much left "as is". My advice is to climb the steps and explore the upper reaches. Views are well worth it.

We loved our visit her, and our lunch in the castle courtyard! I wish we spoke German as many people had some sort of audio information gadget. The castle is amazing, with many nooks and crannies and fair cases to high places.

We decided to go castle hunting as we had time to kill. Given the location off the motorway, it certainly did kill some time hunting it down. Followed by a trek (via car) up the mountain to reach it. Arriving near closing time, we did...More

The site overlooking the Danube from a high promontory and the vast size of the Aggstein Castle are undeniably impressive. There has been a fortified house of some kind here since the 12th century, though most of what one can see know is from much...More

It will be uphill walk and I have difficulty to say how possible it is. Better take car of bus if available.
