About
Park national d'Oka is not far from Montréal. This park has a rich historical and natural heritage. The Calvaire, with its four oratories and three chapels, is a unique complex of historic buildings in America. In Grande Baie and Rivière aux Serpents, land and water come together to give birth to ecological jewels: the wetlands. Winter and summer alike, the top of the Calvaire d'Oka trail provides an exceptional view of Lac des Deux Montagnes and the Adirondacks. Soothing and magnificent...

We went there for a quick walk during the fall season, all along the beach, on what was a beautiful and warm day, at the end of October.

The good: The beauty of nature. Path walkways so it is easy for wheelchairs. Quiet and nice. Not crowded. Enough parking. Facilities open. Person at entrance gate very nice and useful.

The bad: Person at gate being so nice made waiting to enter long. Bikes on walkway too often present and going fast. Garbage and recycling bins in middle of everywhere sort of ruins decor. Sinks not working in men’s washroom.

Covid restrictions: Hand sanitizers at all entrances. Employees wearing masks. Hand dryers in washrooms too close to each other.

This was a very nice walk on that afternoon. The “bad” did not tarnish our day at all.

Too bad SEPAQ feels they have to crowd 2 campsites into one. The people who work there don’t care, no one seems to clean the campsites. Ours had used toilet paper everywhere. The park”police” feel they are exempt from the 30km posted speed limits. The pictures on the website of the sites are misleading, shows nice secluded separation. Our Tent was literally back against the other campsite tent. We asked if we could move to a less crowded spot and the attendant said they don’t allow reservation changes, I think she just didn’t want to do the work. Nice area, nice beach, too bad the people who work there don’t give a crap and our campsites was so small and cramped. Here is a tip, do a little forestry, plant some bushes between the sites and don’t try to cram tel tent size camp sites into what should be one. Says it’s for up to six people per site, what a joke! $200 for 3 nights, not worth it. Lots of nicer parks in Ontario for $45 a night. Red tent in photo was ours green tent is other campsite. Attached foto from Sepaq is third photo.

We have booked our entrance tickets beforehand, just like it is advised on the the website. Spent 2 hours driving there just to be turned back because there were no more parking spots.
Is it so difficult to let people know that there are no more parking spots so they don't waste their time driving?
An associate told us that apart the entrance tickets we should have booked a parking spot. When I was booking there were no information about that and no possibility to do so. Besides the only way you can get to the park is by car so it is obvious that if there are no parking spots you cannot go there. They do it because they earn more money since not all people bother to call explain the situation and try to get their money back.

Inexperienced staff at the level of customer service and moreover made officials make intimidation when you dare to make comments. Dear cyclists if you plan to spend the night there know that the place for you is a tiny terrain where you have to share 2 tables with 15 other cyclists. In addition you are located in the marshes so with a lot of maringouin. Worst cycling experience for life

The camp itself is clean as well as the bathrooms and beach is large with lots of surveillance. But if you like music at any volume...Stay away from OKA!!! It is simply not permitted. And if you are a group of 6 or more just chatting quietly around the campfire. Expect to have multiple visits from staff asking you to be quiet.

*DO NOT GO TO OKA BEACK OR CAMPING - I READ THE BAD REVIEWS AND STILL WENT SHAME ON US****
A group 12 went camping on August 26th & 27th we initially reserved a spot close to the beach however when we got there the lady at the reception advised us that there was many children around were we were located and would have to stop all conversation / fire by 7 PM, she said that she can re locate us to another section where it was more tolerable, we accepted and went on our way………

Our reservation was for 6 people per lot and 3 small tents per lot, sadly the park ranger had is own rules….
1. Since we were the first 4 people that arrived at 3PM Friday we decided to put up our 3 small tents so the other won’t have to when they arrive…. I thought this was ok
2. Park ranger said we are 4 people we need to take one tent down until the other arrive, we asked if we can just take it down and leave it on the ground for the time, PAUL the park security said ok. 2 hours later he came back with another flash light security and said we can’t leave the tent on the floor we need to pack it up !!!!! OK ANGER STARTED TO BUILD
3. 8 pm the others arrived, since we did not want to move the cars we decided to walk to the reception to assist the others back to our camp ground………
a. MR. Park Security stopped us half way and advised us we are not allowed to walk on the path back to the front desk we must take a car !!!! SERIOUSLY PAUL
b. They escorted us back to our lot like we were in jail and sat in their car around the corner to make sure we did not walk anywhere.
c. They came back at 10 PM and told us we need to put out the fire and be quiet because other were trying to sleep. THERE WAS NO ONE CAMPING AROUND US, NO LOTS AROUND US WERE OCCUPIED……. THIS IS HARASSMENT NOW!!!!!!!
4. That being said we kept quiet ate and whispered to each other since PAUL and CREW were babysitting us……..
5. 7AM PAUL and company came back while we were all sleeping calling out “Who is responsible for this lot” I peaked out and realized PAUL was on our lot again looking for MOI………….
a. I woke up angry, PAUL said we are being loud again (IN OUR SLEEP) seriously PAUL was about to get his behind kicked right then and there……….
b. We politely told him to leave our lot and we are going to file a harassment complaint, at this point we were just FED UP we did not even want to stay a second night…
c. Yes we packed up everything and LEFT
d. Went to the receptionist and filed a complaint the receptionist was kind enough to refund us the second night however our first night was down the drain
e. As we were waiting in the car PAUL came to the car with a bottle asking us why we left this on the grass……….YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME………. WE HAD NO BOTTLES HE FOUND IT SOMEWHERE AND ASSUMED IT WAS US LOL
f. We yelled at him to leave us alone and get away from the car, he called for backup to make sure we left the park hahaha like seriously
All the being said WE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO OKA NEVER EVER!!!!!!!

Invited by the family for a family gathering, it costs $17.50 to get in.
OK.
Then I am told that I can't park my car on the side of the small roads but that I must park in the rented camp site.
OK
Then I am told that I can't park in the rented site since only 2 cars are allowed and that I have to park somewhere else.
Not OK.
So where do I park? 'I don't know' says the park attendant, I just enforce the rules
Not OK.
Then I go for a 20 (count 'em) walk to get to the beach. Along the way, I see everywhere signs, immediately off the beaten tracks, road or path, saying in bold letters 'POISON IVY'
Now, I am not talking about one or two dispersed signs. I am talking about EVERYWHERE SIGNS. Which leads me to believe that there is Poison Ivy everywhere except on the roads and on clearly defined trails. So, you cannot walk in the woods. You cannot cut across the woods to get to a recreation center or the food area. You cannot have your children play anywhere but on the roads or on trails, in fear of them getting POISON IVY.
I asked why this dreaded plants was not eradicated and I was told that this was nature and it had to remain as is. So kids can only really play at their 20X30 camp site and if they go anywhere else, then Poison Ivy it is.
Finally, after a 20 minute walk, I get to the beach parking lot with somewhere around 3-5,000 cars all parked.
OK
I follow a path to the most crowded, unsanitary, greased up, dirty- troubled water beach, I have seen in years and only after a serious storm disrupted the shoreline. It is simply revolting.
This is OKA National Park.
This is a blight on Tourism
This is a rip-off

We rented out 2 sites for 2 nights for my friends birthday this weekend.
Over the weekend, park employees came to talk to us at least 9 times on our campsite.
At nine pm we sang our friends happy birthday and handed them a cake. SEPAQ was there within one minute to warn us that we would have to be quiet shortly. They made sure to pass again before "curfew" . While we were a large group, it is worth mentioning that we were not being particularly loud or rowdy and we were respecting the natural environment. They came by many more times for many more reasons: They made us move our tents, (twice) they made us move our cars around, warned us we couldn't make noise many times. At around five pm, they came onto our site to inform us that we were not allowed to play any music on our site, not even quietly strumming our instruments. There were no other campers in sight, but that did not matter to them. They even walked up to our tents once we had gone to bed and told us to stop talking. Every hour or so they would come by and check in on us. It felt like we were teenagers away at summer camp. They did not treat us like adults or equals and their invasion was unprofessional. While the park itself is beautiful, the policing that goes on at oka is unacceptable. They turn a serene environment into a stressful hellhole and for this reason, i will never return to Oka.

If you are looking for a place where they treat you like you are 5, that's the place. (We were all between 30 to 39 years old)

No music, no right to talk, no right to be more than 8 on the same ground (We were 9 on 3 ground but coudn't have dinner all together)

Staff are Young, mean and on a serious powertrip.

You are not allowed to do anything and we were not there to party but to relax but it turns out to be stressfull with all theirs stupid rules.

Plus it is not that nice and you are quiet far from the beach.

So many more beautiful campings in Québec, don't waste your time there but I like the beach (Don't stay over night )

Have a good trip

The best things about Oka National Park are that 1) it's close to Montreal and 2) they allow dogs here. Dogs are part of the family for many people. It's great that Quebec is finally joining the 21st century with respect to their treatment and acceptance of domestic animals/sentient beings. I will now visit and camp at Oka park much more often.
