If you are already in Duqm for some other purpose, then the Rock Garden is an interesting place for an evening walk around.

You can spend about an hour appreciating the variety rocks, and resemble the shapes with mamals etc.

Vehicle access and parking is available close-by. There is no other facility like guide, office, shops, toilet etc. attached to this. Avoid visit during peak sun.

Decided to visit the rock garden while on business over in Duqm. The garden is an area for wild dogs with no clear instructions. It’s hard to get to and no clear direction to it. As well as at the garden there is absolutely no guidance or what so ever. No staff no signs only wild dogs.

Lots of stones. Big and small. Like another galaxy :)
An interesting way to spend time, just walking. Watching stones from different sides, you see something different every time.

The geology of Oman is fascinating and has brought researchers from all over the world. A fine example of an accessible example of this is the Duqm Rock Garden. Towers and balancing formations of sandstone and limestone worn down by millions of years or ocean and wind.

Duqm is currently experiencing an explosion in development. The city is being expanded from a seaside town to an international-scale port with adjoining schools, hospitals, industry and most importantly resorts.

As part of the development, there are highways being built, traffic lights and roundabouts that are new and often not on maps. I drove along the new road from the Crowne Plaza, following the signs to the Rock Garden. I could see the rocks in question from the road, but didn’t come to an entrance. I arrived at the end of the road and couldn’t make it any further. I asked directions with a roadworks safety officer. He told me to go all the way back around to meet Highway 32 near the special economic zone. We drove up Highway 32, and yet again couldn’t find an entrance, however we could see the rocks.

We had all but given up when I saw a small red sign up a construction road stating “Rock Garden”. I had to drive a few kilometers up the highway to turn around, but it was worth it. I followed the construction road, turning at other red signs and avoiding rock and construction trucks. I literally drove through a construction site. Eventually we arrived at the car park and entrance to the garden. We drove to the base of the rocks and walked up into the garden.

The rock formations were much larger and numerous than I’d expected after researching. From balancing boulders to volcanic glass to formations reminiscent of modern art sculptures, it certainly is worth the stop. The sheer size of some of the boulders certainly wasn’t what I expected.

You’ll notice animal tracks throughout. There are cats, foxes, and colourful lizards in the area. It’s hot in the sun and I’d suggest an hour visit. I visited in the morning on my way out of town, but I can see how the afternoon/sunset would be beautiful.

Inferno 3 flight, 815 Sqn, Royal Navy embarked on a truly exilerating journey from the RSV to Duqm Rock Garden, every rock truly does tell a story, if you hold the rock and close your eyes you can really feel it. It's not surprising this is the top attraction in Duqm.

Take lots of water, it's very hot!

Can't believe we nearly decided not to visit this place! We were passing through and staying overnight on our way to Salalah! What an amazing array of rocks of all shapes and sizes that had stood there for millions of years! I felt there was a surreal atmosphere! We arrived at 4.45pm and were there as the sun set! Felt sad going as we could have spent several hours walking around and soaking up the atmosphere if we had come straight away when we arrived in Duqm! Don't miss this even if you're not a rock lover! A 10/10 for me! 😍

We experienced a landscape we only have known from southwestern USA. In Rock Garden you find different Stones like large bowls, stones with holes like windows or shaped like animals - altogether its like a big playground. Especially families with children of all age should have a lot of fun! And for the geological interested it must be truly amazing.

The original rock garden full of sculptures. You can see each sculpture differently from different points. Just like art.
It's a bit difficult to get here because the road is under construction now. But the place is worth seeing.

Perhaps the only natural attraction of Duqm, it is a dry and boiling open-air site, where these curiously shaped stones can be found as far as the eye can see. The artist is only and uniquely nature. Upon arrival you are disconcerted because there is a gate with a car park and a poster with a QR code inviting you to book. In reality there is no one, you can drive up to the bathroom structure (closed) and walk into the site. The stones have the most disparate shapes and everyone can see what they want in them. Good for taking photos.
