It's really amazing to experience art as the artist would like you to. The Matisse section of the Museum is set by the artist himself, who donated all the works to it since he was born there and it can give you an excellent idea of the course and evolve of his work. The other two permanent exhibitions (Herbin and... More

Hard to imagine that the painter of 'The Dance' was born and raised in this region. So obvious to connect Matisse to Nice. Nevertheless, he made extensive donations to the museum in his hometown. The works of art cover every facet of his evolution in search of the perfect line. As a bonus, a rare and large temporary exhibition of... More

The museum is not kids-friendly and the people there are not kids-friendly which made part of the visit unpleasant from the start. Also, Matisse best work is not there for sure.... The only good thing for me was the place where this museum is, a beatiful area with gardens, etc

We both enjoy a lot the content of the museum and the joy of visiting in placeful atmosphere, not like other top class... More

The only negative was that on the first day we wished to visit it was closed and we could find no signage to say when it would open or the times. Fortunately the lady in the little cafe opposite could tell us everything. I'm sure you could pass by without noticing but It's well worth a visit. Amazing that such... More

This museum was a lovely surprise. I knew of Vence and the Matisse House in Nice, but had never heard of this museum in his birthplace. It has many early works and also work of his teachers and the people that influenced hm. Apart from Matisse, there is a Picasso and a Giacometti statue. There are also some samples from... More

If you are a Matisse fan,go for it. Otherwise give it a thought if it is worth it. The exhibition is not that big and you are not allowed to do basically anything in the museum. The staff was kind of unfriendly.
