It's a quaint and fun little "village!" The wall murals are quite nicely done, and are very clever and humorous. As we walked around the village center we found fun pieces of the Clochemerle story in cartoon images. I enjoyed the wine tasting at the information center, and bought my obligatory refrigerator magnet. Our tour operator only allowed us fifteen minutes here, and I would liked to have had the opportunity to have spent more time at Destination Beaujolais - Bureau d'informations touristiques de Clochemerle.

If you want to have your ideas on what a French wine village is like confirmed, go to Clochemerle. It could be from a film except that it's real. The locals are very welcoming especially in the Cave de Clochemerle, decorated with scenes from the Gabriel Chevalier book. You might recognise some of the characters standing at the bar.
The countryside is fabulous with walking trails marked out in the vines.

A trip down memory lane with a visit to this enigmatic little village.
Well worth a visit for lovers of the story. Try the bar in the square to see barrel tops painted with the story & characters

We had a hard time finding this place, but when we finally did, we were pretty disappointed. We saw only four other people the entire time we were in the town, and the museum and cave were both closed until 3 in the afternoon. We were there at lunchtime, hoping to have lunch in what seemed to be a cute town, but in reality there were no restaurants, no shops, nothing at all to do except snap a few pictures of this one building. Not worth the drive.

Fully acceptable piece of literary appropriation, taking over the gently self satirising book by Chevalier and running with the story and the characters.Great fun and just the right side of over the top.

This was such a delightful little village. The wall murals were very amusing. There's a mechanical show that tells the stories of Clochemerle (all in French, of course), but very cool. You can take in the landscape while enjoying a glass of wine (or grape juice). Fun fact: The metal structure in the center of the town square was erected as a urinal many years ago to stop inebriated men from peeing in the streets. As you walk through the village you'll spot fun pieces of the Clochemerle story in cartoon images. It's a fun little diversion worth a stop when you're in the Beaujolais region.

Well not really - they adapted the name of the village - Clochemerle, after a famous French novel which was set there in the early 20th century. The whole center of the village is dedicated to the amusing themes in the novel - and there's a nice museum and wine tasting center.

This is a pleasant little town in the countryside of the Beaujolais region. It includes a couple of boutique hotels, the “Caves of Clochemerle”, (a musty wine bar and museum), and a mural telling the story of the Beaujolais. The mural adorns the small tourist center which is located right across from the Caves of Clochemerle. It’s a charming little village to visit.

Vaux-en-Beaujolais is a small, attractive village made famous as the fictional village of Clochemerle in the book by Gabriel Chevallier. We stopped here while visiting wineries in Beaujolais, and it was the highlight of the trip. The village’s tourism office outer wall is painted with trompe-l’oeil-style frescoes from the book. We started at the Cave de Clochermerle, and sampled some of the local red wines – all were delicious. The lady at the tourism office was welcoming and clearly proud of her village and its history. There is a small museum on the other side of the courtyard, and in the middle a replica of the (fictitious) urinal that is central to the book’s plot. We are very glad we stopped and spent a couple of hours here; it is a pleasant and charming village.

The Tourist Office is adorned with reproductions of the illustrations to Gabriel Chevallier's comic novel 'Clochemerle' and there is a very interesting museum with a film of his life. "Talking Flowertubs" were intriguing, Also a very good Cave to taste and buy Beaujolais Villages wines.
