Lovely view point
Oct. 2019
Situated overlooking the Tay estuary, very well kept and lovely viewpoint. Local bus service takes you over from Dundee, frequent service during the day.

Splendid viewing point
Oct. 2017 • Couples
We stumbled across this little gem when walking along the coastal pathway. The location is great and worth taking a few minutes to sit and enjoy both the fountain and the views from the seating benches. On a splendid day it's just lovely to look over to the bridges and the Firth of Tay.
The first reviews here are so good that I cannot add more. Enjoy.

A superb setting on a cloudless day

Having read travelling man's review of the fountain we stopped to have a look. What a stunning location on a hot summers day .great views of Dundee and the bridges. There is a telescope just below the fountain to get close ups of the scenery.I would find it difficult to add more as the first review is very thorough.

In a superb location overlooking the River Tay
May 2018 • Solo
Visited the Drinking Fountain today whilst having a drive in the area.
It is situated in Tay Street, less than five minutes walk east (in the direction of the Tay Road Bridge) from the High Street.
It commands a superb location with stunning views across the River Tay to Dundee, and is in the 'Braes' area of Newport-On-Tay which is well worth a walk along too if you are in the area. There is seating situated directly behind the fountain, where one can sit and admire the river views.
The fountain was donated to the town of Newport-On-Tay in 1882 by Mrs Blyth Martin, a member of a prominent Dundee jute family, with the intention of providing clean drinking water to the citizens.
The fountain was repaired/refurbished around 2012/2013, but today there is no water in the fountain.
The canopied drinking fountain was manufactured at the Saracen Foundry in Glasgow, by Walter Macfarlane. The canopy is supported by eight columns.
All in all, very ornate, and definitely worth a look if you are in the area.
For those with a keener interest, more information is available about the fountain on the internet.
