We were staying at a yurt camp near Bokonbaevo and asked our accomodation to organize transfer to the canyon. The drive took about one hour each way. The roads are in bad condition, basically it is just sand, no proper road. Our driver said for years the government tried to build a proper road but not enough workers can be found. So we were surprised to see that pretty much whole south part of Issyk Kul has no asphalted road. Arriving to the canyon, we could explore it on our own. The driver said we could go up the highest point but the path is really very slippery due to the sand. It is quite steep. I would advice to bring good shoes, hiking sticks. We went for sunset which was a very good choice. Beautiful golden hour. We paid 2000 som for the driver which was fair in my opinion, since we were 2 people, so less than 10 euro per person. The driver waited for us the whole time which was pretty nice. We stayed around 1.5 hour there.

Interesting place, well worth a visit. Feels like a giant ant farm, the soil is sandy and slippery so wear good shoes. Colours are amazing and it is great to discover the canyon walking along the reefs and the valleys.

We loved it here. Amazing landscape with eye popping geological stone formations in ever changing colors, providing fantastic photo opportunities. We were lucky with a clear blue sky and moderate temperatures, but it must be even more beautiful at sunset. There are good paths to walk on.

Skazka Canyon is known locally a the Fairy Tale Canyon because it is home to a number of bizarre rock formations. These include rocks which resemble the Great Wall of China, a hippo, a castle and penguins. I was surprised at the different colours of the rocks - sandstone, grey and green.

It is a bit of a scramble up the hillside. Good walking/climbing shoes are a must but it is worth the effort.

Very spectacular canyon. That's two (maybe more) kilometres from the highway outside  Tosor village, if you drive from Karakol. Then you need to go left. And there you will see a pile of rocks of different shapes and colors. It should be borne in mind that in the morning you move deeper into the canyon against the sun - there will be problems with photography. Canyon is small and even  with a thorough examination you will have enough for it a couple of hours. If you'll  neglect its next continuation. It is also beautiful, but there is more difficult to move - the trail becomes very narrow, and the slopes of the rocks - steeper, and climb on them is much riskier than in the near part of the canyon. And, of course, you should be lucky with the weather - the soil there in many places is clay and rain turn it into an impassable mess underfoot.

We only got 1-2 hours to hike on this place as we joined a tour. There are still a lot of rocks or mountains we hadn’t visited. Better bring a pair of gloves as you need to climb on it. Great place for nature lovers.

We visited the fairy tale canyon on a private excursion and were impressed by the abundance of wild flowers and delightful scenery. This is an excellent place for hiking but be aware of where you are as it would not be difficult to get lost here!

Fairy Tale Canyon / Skazka is number one must see in Kyrgyzstan. I’m really surprised about this canyon. Only 2km from main road and it’s very easy to visit this place on way from Karakol
