Description:

Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum is all set to become one of the key...

Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum is all set to become one of the key visitor attractions in the South. The only remaining steam driven brickworks in the country we show how brick making made the leap from small scale production to 20 million bricks a year. The fully restored and working machinery helped us to win the coveted Institute of Mechanical Engineering Heritage Award in 2011 and on Open Days we can show it all running as it was when it ceased producing bricks. On site you can see the patented method adopted to dry the bricks and the huge kiln block that was used to fire them ready for collection. The museum has other clay based collections on site and lots of opportunities on offer which makes a visit both enjoyable and educational.

What a great little museum this is. Never been before, but saw there was a special event day on, on Sunday. Plenty to see and do for all ages. The brickworks museum was very interesting, and the small scale steam train rides went down well with my 8yr old daughter. Other exhibitions were on view too. Plus the Christmas craft... More

Open and event days includes jumble sales, craft sales, small exhibitions, animals, railway rides, and other small-scale attractions. Ice creams and catering sometimes. Well worth a visit.

Noticed the sign for this Museum and decided to look in, whilst it is clearly a work in progress it is very much worth a visit, it tells the story of brickmaking in Bursledon and has an amazing display of old brickmaking equipment, a good effort is made to make it interesting for the younger generation, this really is worth... Visited on event day today I think it is our third time this year! There is lots to do and we keep coming back cos our little boy loves machinery and trains so it is ideal and near to us. The place has a friendly atmosphere and the cafe is good value. There is lots to do for kids which... More

A great afternoon out. Interesting and fun, things for both adults and kids to do. Great if you are a little geeky and like old machinery

We spent a few hours here and loved it, the journey through to making of a brick is fascinating (can't believe I'm saying this but it's true) the curators humanised the exhibition by showing stories of those who worked there. You could touch almost everything, all the staff were friendly and had a real desire to share their knowledge. We... More

We went to the "Trains, Trains, Trains" event today, an experience not to be missed! The organisation was 100% and the exhibits were fantastic. Although only 30 minutes drive for me I have not been there before, a mistake I intend to rectify again soon, there is so much to see and do!
