Kheer Ganga
1. Delhi to Bharishani via Kasol- Take transport from Delhi to Bhuntar, from Bhuntar there are two options either take public buses which are at regular intervals and cheap or take a Pvt taxi. If u have a day spare then take rest in Kasol and on next day proceed to trek.
2. Kheerganga Trek- It's a 12km trek and for people going on their first trek, it could be their lifetime adventure. As we were starting our journey we met our guide, Mr. Dev (8894534058) and soon I realised that I have made the right decision as the Kheerganga trek needs skills, temperament and time management and without him my group could not have completed the trek. Mr. Dev supported us like a group member, taught us the basics, and also helped us to find the best camp in our budget.
I strongly recommend to hire him and make this trek a lifetime adventure.

If you go for a trip to Himachal Pradesh, you realize that one trip is not enough. You ought to come back again and again. Similarly when I visited this place with my friends, we visited Kasol, Manali and were amazed with the whole setting. It's so cold, pleasant and the air is fresh. We felt like our body blessed us with each breath we took.
Anyway while in Kasol, our hotel receptionist mentioned that we must go to Kheerganga to trek. He did not tell us what was at the top point but mentioned that we would definitely be surprised. Without any further questions, we began our journey towards Kheerganga.
The trek usually takes 3.5 hrs max. We were newbies who were in vacation mood. With a lot of halts, we took 6 hrs. Once up, we were very tired but the weather, the landscape, the view was amazing. Also we found out the final surprise ; HOT WATER SPRINGS!!
Yes, in almost 6° temperature, there's a hot water springs where you can take a bath. The water is hot and very relaxing. There's different space for both; girls and guys. The impact it had on my body was very soothing. After a trek of 6 hours my body really needed some rest and this hot water spring gave me happiness.
Incase you plan to go here, please note the following;
1) Post 5pm, they do not allow anyone to descend to base.
2) There are tents which can be rented to stay.
3) Since you will be at an elevated height, please remember that it will get colder at night. The temperatures will fall a lot. Hence keep warm clothes handy.
4) Keep sufficient money so you can eat. There is a Cafe above which serves food and juices. My tip would be to carry some food yourself.
5) There is no alcohol being served above. Hence if you have plans to buy it above, you will be disappointed.
6) The people there maintain a clean atmosphere. Please don't dirty the place.
7) Before you could enter the spring, there is a space outside where the spring water comes out. There you are expected to clean yourself first before you enter the spring. This is to ensure the spring is clean for all.

after reaching Barshani one has the option of driving to Tosh village or hit trek to kheerganga. there are two routes via naktan village or one can take more adventurous route via Pulga. I preferred to take Naktan, Rudra nag route which is most commonly used route. After passing Naktan village one can start enjoying the natural panoramic view Parvati valley has to offer. After resting and a full glass of very very very sweet chai at Rudra nag waterfall with gurgaling parvati river in background one gets rejuvenated to start next 3.5 km of uphill ascent through the woods with cool air kissing your face. after reaching Kheer ganga by taking dip in hot water spring one can relax and retire to shacks and mind it after hitting Kheer ganga first thing one should do is find place to spend night as there are only few options with bare basic amenities and there is one ashram also.you will find chilled out atmosphere sporadically disturbed by LOUD city dwellers.
morning will give majestic view of Kheerganga and the mountains surrounding parvati valley.
If one wants peace and tranquility it is place to go, so pack your bags and enjoy,
PS: its a humble request DO NOT LITTER as it is our duty to preserve nature. it was very sorry state how tourists throughout the route throghing garbage enroute and at kheer ganga when the locals and shop owners had put up waste collection bags at prominent places take some effort put wrappers and plastic bottles till you reach some shop and Throw them in garbage bag as a responsible TRAVELLER

Perfect…if you like parties, smoking and crowds. However, if you’re looking for nature and silence, you will be disappointed in this place. It’s busy, loud with tons of restaurants, cafés and shops and the entire path is covered in rubbish.

A gruelling 4.5-hour trek spanning over 14 km through the thick forest leads to the scenic campsite of Kheerganga. The trek begins from Pulna village, from where two routes part. Pulna is 2 hours drive from Kasol.
Buses and taxis are easily available from Kasol to Barshaini and finally to Pulna. The path to the right from here runs through the difficult trails, big boulders, and lush greenery.
Plenty of waterfalls and springs shooting out of the big rocks ensure that your walk is as eventful as it can get. Once you reach the top, the views are surreal. With some stay options, a wonderful campsite, a hot water spring, a temple, some cafes, and huge snow-clad mountains all around, this place would keep you gaping at the magical vistas.
Stationed at 3000 m in the lap of mighty Himalayas, Kheerganga is popularly known as the sacred place where Lord Shiva meditated for thousands of years.
The other route from Pulna takes you through Tosh village, which is flat, less green and lengthy, approximate 17 km. If it’s a sunny day and you started the trek late, this trail can make things a bit difficult for you.
Don’t forget to stop by Rudra Nag en route. I went to the Kheerganga top via the trail through mountains and came back via Tosh, thus completing the full circle. A perfect weekend getaway from Delhi this place is.
Note: Kheerganga is choking from the excessive amount of garbage littered by us. The once beautiful place now lies under massive dump of bottles and wrappers that we carry to the mountains and carelessly throw anywhere around. Please don’t do that. Always remember the way you treat nature, it will treat you in the similar way.
If you can’t deal with your leftovers, don’t go there, or don’t carry any packed eatables. But always remember that throwing random plastic bottles is going nowhere from the place where you left it. Please don’t spoil beautiful mountains.

Let me again Thank Paul for unraveling the hippie trail of Himachal Pradesh which is a series of strikingly distinctive destinations, mostly villages though. In the south of Kullu lies Parvati valley which is known for various reasons and mostly for the wrong ones. Pin-Parvati pass trek was the first thing I heard about Parvati valley and later I got to know how it became a major hideout for hippies in India. Needless to mention that Parvati valley produces the best marijuana of the country which in itself draws a large number of travelers seeking contemplation in sheer isolation. After researching a bit, I decided to trek till Kheer Ganga and Tosh to get a glimpse of hippie culture and making new connections. So here goes my account of hippie days. Please forgive me if I offend anyone.
Alpine Meadows Kheer Ganga
Kheer Ganga (2960 meter) lies in the extreme end of Parvati valley and the last inhibited village while trekking to pin valley via Pin-Parvati pass. Kheer Ganga remains snow-covered during winters and only get temporary settlement during summers which make is a perfect hide-out for those who want to smoke weed, hash etc etc without any concern…… Cheap and safer staircase to heaven… Well anyway, caught an overnight bus to Kullu and got down at Bhuntar circle to catch the connecting bus to Barshani.
Parvati valley lies at the periphery of Great Himalayan National Park and mostly covered with dense forest of alpines and oaks with apple orchards in between. Road to Barshani goes parallel to the Parvati river and passes through Kasol (Major hippie town of Parvati valley) and Manikaran (Famous Gurudwara). Barshani is the last village connected with road (However road now goes up till Tosh) and lies on the bank of Parvati river.
Soon after reaching Barshani, I found myself in the midst of hippie culture with stoned freaks dominating the streets and staring at something unknown. And of course there were some gorgeous chicks as well seeking something within. I started to Kheer-Ganga just after reaching Barshani to buy myself enough time. There are few things you should know about hippies
- Hippies acknowledge you and ignore you at the same time. If you are soft hearted, your chances will diminish.
- Hippies worship those who can arrange them something to get intoxicated. If you don’t smoke then you are not welcome.
- Hippies don’t mind much if you are flirting with their girls but if you don’t go by their rules, there are least chances to get their girls.
- Start learning Hebrew to strengthen your chances. Forget about bragging about your possessions or knowledge, it won’t be any help.
- Remember not everyone in Parvati is hippie.
Anyway for the first time I was trekking with some weight so initial stretch became really taxing till I get adjusted to the situation. Trail passes through beautiful alpine meadows following the river Parvati uphill. En route I came across to many villages and surprisingly Hippies were staying everywhere. I also get chance to pluck apples and apricots from the orchards adjoining the trail. Following the roaring parvati river and crossing some breath-taking wooden bridges, I made it to Kheer Ganga after 3-4 hours of trekking. While trekking I was greeted by many fellow travelers and I weighted my chances every time.
Kheer Ganga is a tableland surrounded by thick forest of alpine meadows. It was a mesmerizing view when clouds started enveloping the forest and the snow-clad mountains. Kheer Ganga is known for hot water stream which flows beneath the temple of Lord Shiva. Temple is highly revered hence alcohol is not permitted in Kheer Ganga however other kind of Intoxication are in surplus. There is well made pool to bathe in the hot water stream and water is really hot.
Sadly, the day I reached Kheer Ganga was also the start of some freak gathering in Kasol so most of the long term travelers were receding down to Kasol. You will only get basic tent kind of accommodation in Kheer Ganga. I browsed all the available options and evaluated the possibility. Finally lodged myself in a tent situated at one corner of the table land. Soon after it started raining heavily and spoiled the whole scenery so I surrendered to sleep to rejuvenate myself.
In the evening when I woke up, views of the forest and the peaks were simply spectacular. Heavy mist was enclosing the valley but the peaks were shining while sun was setting down at a distant horizon. In addition to that, the melody of Parvati River was soothing the entirety of that moment. It was too much to absorb and appreciate for a nature lover. Later I realized that I am accompanied by a hippie couple in the same guest house. They were much interested to explore the beauty within and smoke weed. My chances were completely shattered as there were just 3 travelers at Kheer Ganga that evening.
As it was dawned and night approached, clouds disappeared completely to offer us the crystal clear view of sky and the stars.. a view of sky which we hardly feel in towns or cities…. I roamed around the plateau, climbed small rocks, barged into the grooves, listened to the sound of silence and I realized the very freedom of this place which makes it so special. Being in Kheer Ganga is a different feeling than what you feel while accomplishing a challenging peak or high altitude trekking or defeating harsh terrain or exploring untraveled. There is nothing to feel special about…nothing to brag about… no feeling of home or homelessness….it was just thoughtlessness…. That evening was a conditioning to the mind and the soul or to the existence.. So relaxing and laid-back… and if you want to reach the state of thoughtlessness, Kheer Ganga is your destination.
Next morning, I woke up and headed straight to the hot springs to take a bath and brush my teeth. Believe me it was really hot water and it scared me for the first time. Later I overcame the fear and dipped in the hot water spring. It was a refreshing pool in the midst of nature. Although there was no problem of food or accommodation but in the absence of the tourists, Kheer Ganga was quite deserted and I was not seeking isolation those days so I decided to pack my stuff and recede back to the valley in the search of new destinations. I was fortunate not to witness rainfall while descending to Barshani else it would have not been 2 hours descend.

Kheer Ganga Valley can be reached after a long but moderate trek and the valley at the end of the trek is breathtaking. We took the route through the Naktan village which led us through beautiful panoramic views of twisted mountain trails, snow capped peaks dotted with brilliant yellow mustard flowers. The cool air, chilled fresh water from natural springs energized us as we trekked a stretch of about 4 km to the Kheer Ganga valley. The trek takes about 4 to 5.5 hours depending on the level of fitness and the number of breaks taken. The Rudra nag waterfall with the gurgling Parvati river flowing through is a welcome interlude to an amazing trek. Be sure to carry layers of clothing since mountain temperatures change very sharply during the day and carry a change of clothes so that you can take a dip in the natural hot water springs. There are wooden huts with basic amenities available in the valley but do not expect anything fancy. Wooden huts, shared toilets will be the order of the day but the shacks provide good food which can be enjoyed till from 8 a.m. to about 9 at night.
There isn't much else to do in the valley except revel in the glories of nature at its diverse best- snow, sunshine, cold winds, hot springs- a reward in itself for most of us plagued by the monotony of routine life!

Trek to abode of lord shiva through charismatic grey green mountains and thunderous parvati river.
If you are coming from delhi take a volvo from Delhi and reach bhuntar its a small village from where road diverges for parvati valley. Here you have to catch local bus to barshaini which is about 2-3 hours approx. Barshaini is a small village with few staying options and basic facilities like dhabas, taxi and a wine shop. Mostly people prefer to stay in tosh village which is 3 km away from barshaini.
Trekking Starts from barshaini itself its around 10 km to kheer ganga. There are 3 routes for kheer Ganga.
Route 1 :Barshaini - Nakthan Village - kheer Ganga
Route 2 : Barshaini - Kalga - Kheer Ganga
Route 3 : Barshaini - Tosh Village _ Kheer Ganga
We took route no. 2 which meets route no. 1 in mid way its short gentle climb halfway but this route passes through dense forest. One can see majestic deodhar trees and dominance of nature. Midpoint on this route is Nakthan Village famous for gorgeous apple orchads its a traditional himchali village with small wood and stone houses and few cafes.
Now a waterfall Rudranag is short walk away a serene waterfall very close to temple with 2 small cafes. The sound of parvati river rushing through the gorges and making music to the ears and fill water bottles from here its clean drinkable water.
Uphill. Climb begins from this point there are many shortcuts best used by locals advise not to use them. When you walked and walked the path will wind one final time and the yellow and blue tarpaulin huts can be seen. This is the start of kheer Ganga breath taking views, serene environment, wind blowing and a natural jacuzzi... YES a hot water spring on the top.
Imagine a cup of coffee, white sauce pasta and free jacuzzi all at the height of 3000 metres. Overnight stay options are easily available here not a perfect hotel but camps for couples as well. Must visit place.... Easy trek for beginners.
