Have visited the beach at West Runton many times over the years, only living down the road, as it’s one of the more unique beaches around the Norfolk area, with the rocks. Don’t go expecting to build sandcastle immediately, it’s great for rock pooling to start with then opens out to some beautiful flat sands.
However nice the beach was our visit slightly spoiled by a faulty car park machine this time around, hence the low rating.
A nice afternoon out, but let down by technology - it’s a shame the little man doesn’t still sit in the shed to take payment, or the cafe was open to make payment like I remember doing when I was a little boy. We won’t be returning any time soon, especially as it gets really busy with tourists in the summer months, we prefer to head inland away from it all.

The beach is interesrimg and cliff top walks are lovely. Great for dog walking. Only downside is the rip off car park. You can only buy a day"s parking for £3 even if you only wish to stay for an hour or so. Better to walk to the beach from the town.

The beach is lovely but annoyed that the minimum charge for parking here was £4 even though we only wanted to give our dog a brief run about. The attendant was grumpy when we asked for the cheaper rate. My advice is just not to bother and go to East Runton in where parking was £1.80 instead and the beach just as gorgeous. If you really want to go to West Runton walk along the beach from here.
I have no problem paying for parking at places like this but object to being ripped off.

West Runton isn't my preferred beach on the Norfolk coast but as mentioned by other reviewers, its good for fossil hunting and rock pooling. It's a very rocky beach which I dont really enjoy (personal preference) but it's quite sandy and has good toilet/cafe facilities. I remember coming here on a school trip because West Runton was, and still is, known for suffering from coastal erosion so it's a good place to teach your kids some geography.
Theres a good size car park here but it is no higher or lower priced than other Norfolk beaches. Overall not a bad little beach just not my favourite.

We drove down as it was a mile to walk from West Runton. We thought we would just have an hour walking on the beach… but, the parking charges are not suitable for a quick walk! It is £4 to park, which is ok if you are there for the day but ridiculously steep if you only want a walk…. We wondered why so many cars were doing 3 point turns! Bad economics, there was approx 5 cars in a huge car park on a beautiful sunny day! Suggest they revise to £1 for first 90 minutes, then the £4 for all day…Nice beach although very rocky underfoot but great if you are there hunting fossils. Toilets need upgrading & cafe very expensive. Cramer, Sheringham, Blakeney & Wells beaches are a lot nicer.

We enjoyed our visit to this mostly sandy beach, with some stones. Not overly busy even in mid August, unlike some of the more popular beaches nearby. Good little cafe/shop and toilets nearby. Nice big car park for £3 for all day. Would definitely visit this beach again.

Lucky with the weather which was sunny with light cloud. Good price for a whole day parking at £4. Great little cafe with lovely fresh sandwiches which were reasonably priced. Toilets were a little old fashioned but were adequate.
Spent the whole day with the kids, parents and grandparents all having a great time, swimming, finding small fossils and searching rock pools. A great day!

We usually head up to Wells next sea but as expected it was rammed and there was no parking near the beach. Someone at the campsite suggested we try West Runton and so glad we did !! You head up a narrow road through fields and and you park in a field. £3 for cars ALL day £4 for vans and free to motorcycles. You can’t park cheaper in our hometown for all day !!
You head down a fairly steep slip way and are faced with an expanse of beach. When the tide it out there are lots of rock pools to your left and to the right soft sand. We had our 2 dogs so we had to walk a little further down. The sea was so clear and despite the number of visitors you never felted crowded in. There is a shop which sells ice creams, drinks, sandwiches and hot donuts. There are only 3 toilets for girls so expect to queue !
We will definitely be heading back there instead of Wells in busy times.

We walked from the car park by the coastguard lookout at East Runton, and looped to West and to Cromer. Nice firm sand, but after a long run of February storms there were areas of shingle, and a lot of new cliff collapses and large flints dotted everywhere. Beautiful long vistas, and perfect for a dog walk.

Visited on a warm September day not long after high tide.
Not too busy and plenty of parking - £3 for the day for cars. The short area in front of the promenade has no dogs between march and September but this is a small section and we were quickly onto the beach with our greyhound where allowed.
Some sand, some rocks - a bit of a mix.
