I have been coming to this gem in the dessert for 20 years. It never disappoints. There is always something unique about each trip. This time I saw the bay and the sea filled with more dolphins than every before. We also swim with the whale sharks, a few people at a time and no touching. Then there are the friendly seals and all of the underwater sea life to see while snorkeling. The pelicans put on quite the show too when they are fishing.

The Hotel Los Vientos made the trip worthwhile. The highway South is fixed (for now) all the way to Bahia de Los Angeles, so we took a quick trip. My husband could not get a fishing boat that day, but we found the spot to buy fresh Yellowtail fillets in town, to take home. The hotel had all we needed to relax for 2 days. Clean rooms, great food, and service (delivered to your room), from their restaurant, a huge palapa style bar on the shore, even a swimming pool for a dip. All masked employees, and very helpful front desk. It's a quick drive downtown, if you need something.

We were totally impressed with Bahia de Los Angeles! It is isolated and splendidly magnificent in so many ways. The water is so beautiful and the area kept natural. We did not get to see the museum but will on our next trip. We do want to return to this amazing place.

This would be a great kayaking destination for weekenders from the southern California area, were it not for the condition fo the roads, which make what would be an eight hour drive into a four day ordeal (there and back.) Construction is ongoing to resurface the gravel road from San Felipe southwards, but for the present time, a 4 wheel drive vehicle is required, unless you take the long route across from the west side of the peninsula. A beautiful bay, very quiet in the off season and great for kayaking. Beware though, of the small stingrays hidden just under the sand, whihc make this an unpleasant area fort waders--a sting is extremely painful and swelling could ruing your holiday. Because of these problems, it is a relatively quiet area in the off season, and quiet peaceful. In season, there are whale sharks and manata rays to spot.

Always wanted to go here and Bahia did not disappoint. Over a dozen islands, each with its own particular brand of wildlife, from cormorant and pelicans and blue footed boobies to seals and whale sharks. Even though it wasn't the proper season, we saw six whale sharks in the first half hour of our four hour boat tour. The water is so incredibly clean and clear. The locals are very concerned about litter, and the few times we saw a soda bottle floating in the water, Captain Luis reached over the side and snagged it. Streets are litter free as well.

We visit at least twice a year. It is the best deep sea fishing for yellow tail, grouper, white fish. However, the eco tour was a highlight. We jumped into the ocean and swam along some beautiful whale sharks. Saw hundreds of dolphin and a couple of sting rays. I love the small intimate fishing town and the friendly locals.

Spent a night here on our way to Loreto.
A beautiful spot, the view of the bay is spectacular. We enjoyed the ocean and the pool, and the staff were pleasant.
The room was in sore need of updating. Chunks falling from the ceiling, and the bathroom really tacky, with a constant sewer smell as the toilet was not seated properly.
The bed was comfortable, with nice soft sheets, such a contrast. The restaurant food was just okay.

I liked the fishing village of Bahia de Los Angeles. It has an excellent small museum about the history of the place. Jesuits and miners took their first steps here before heading into the hills. The Sea of Cortez beacons with it's islands, birds, and fish and sea mamals.
It is out of the way to get here. An hour of highway #1.

There isn't a lot here, but the people are friendly, and we were able to find everything we needed. It's a pretty sleepy little coastal town maybe an hour or hour and half off Federal 1. We were heading to Mulege but when we learned how much farther it was, we redirected to this little town. There are a couple places to eat, a grocery store/hardware shop, a pharmacy, and there was fishing available although we didn't go. There are a few hotels and while they are not top caliber, they are ok.

Driving from SanDiego? Is it a safe drive? It has been a dream of mine to come and swim with Whale Sharks but can not afford ecolodge trip! But have always heard driving in Baja is not suggested? Thoughts on this for a party of 2? Caravans avail? Other means of transportation? Thanks!

Hi BAJA Lovers- we are planning our 1st trip to Bahia De Los Angeles; two of the college kids in our party will need internet (for remote school) while the adults play. Is there an internet cafe in Bahia De Los Angeles or a restaurant with WIFI one can pay to have internet access? We are unsure where we are staying yet (some places seem to offer wifi and others not). Thx in advance

Guillermo’s Hotel in town on the water has a wifi connection. There is also great food, especially seafood. They do have hamburgers, which is rare for Bahia de Los Angeles. They have open air seating facing the bay. They also have great fishing boats and guides.
I do not know of an Internet cafe in Bahia de Los Angeles.
Costa del Sol Hotel also has WiFi, mainly in their restaurant, but it is a weak signal in the rooms.

Hola, quisiera saber cuánto cuesta por persona el paseo en bote y nadar en el mar y si hay renta de esnorquel o hay que llevar el propio. Gracias.

A group of us are planning a trip to visit the whale sharks in August. My question is, will a class C motorhome be able to travel along the dirt road? (we will be coming down through San Felipe). We have travelled other dirt roads, just need to know if you think it is passable. Thank you for any advice in advance!
Yes, I went here as a kid every summer and we went with a convoy of motorhomes and campers etc. We were always able to get through right to the beach. Slow rolling though, like snail's pace. Lol. It was always the longest part of the trip. The "we're almost there" yet so far away. I swam with whale sharks myself but before there was tourism. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life! Hope you enjoy it!

How to get to Bahia de Los Angeles & the boojums?
Tim C
Costa Mesa, CA15 contributions
The boojums (cirio cactus) start as the main highway south of El Rosario crosses the desert. It’s kind of a bumpy pothole filled road for the next few hundreds miles. You will now be in be in boojum country, in an area known as Valle de los Cirios. The whole area is a protected reserve. The cactus forests are spectacular. Turn off the transpeninsular highway to Bahia de Los Angeles. That’s 300 miles and don’t drive too fast because the pot holes can be pretty nasty!
