For us it was like stepping back in time and experiencing a community 100 years ago. The people on the island treated us like family. When we stepped of the boat there was someone to welcome us home. The island is a visual treat of well maintained buildings and beautiful scenery. The smell of homemade bread and delicious cuisine from... More

This place was an experience of a lifetime. It is a LONG WAY from modern civilisation but worth the trip if you really want to get away from modern life. Service was excellent.. People were extremely friendly and helpful. If you don't like it, then you are obviously looking for something else and you're in the wrong place.

We were hesitant to make this visit because of the expense, but decided to splurge. We were so happy we did. (And met several people on our trip who were also splurging and glad they had!). Battle Harbour is unique--an Atlantic Canadian cod fishing village active until modern times, now frozen in time as a historic trust. The staff are... More

We stayed 2 nights at this wonderful place as part of a Road Scholar program on Newfoundland and Labrador. It's a restored fishing village that the former residents (who had to leave years ago because of the cod fishing moratorium), working together, are bringing back to life. One takes a small ferry, without one's car, to this idyllic island location.... More

We have just returned from two nights on Battle Harbour that far exceeded our expectations. On the boat ride from Mary's Harbour, we could see an iceberg in the distance, and that set the tone for our visit. We truly felt like we had entered into another world when we stepped off the boat and were greeted by Peter, the... More

We stayed at "The Inn" for two nights and we wish it had been three. There is no way to describe the place other than there is no place quite the same. When we arrived we were struck with amazing views and some of the best fish cakes I have ever tasted. When we got to our residence we were... More

This is a place that is far off the beaten path. In 1990, the value of its fishing room and associated structures was recognized and the property turned over to the Battle Harbour Historic Trust. For a decade, restoration work took center stage. Since the late 1990s, visitors have come to stay on the island and get an experience of... More

Last week, while on a tour with a group of 25, we had the privilege of staying for two nights in the Grenfell Cottage at Battle Harbour Historical Trust. There are too few superlatives to describe Battle Harbour. It has huge historical significance as a permanent and seasonal fishing centre. It was the site of one of Sir Wilfred Grenfell's... More
