Visited here today and I'm so glad we did. Beautiful setting, you can see for miles the buildings are amazing , reminded me a bit of 'Hogwarts' 😉 I would've loved to have gone to school here ! The tea room was great, pleasant , efficient service and lovely food. The best bit for me was visiting the church itself,... More

Return visit to this wonderful calming place. We just visited the visitor centre and walked in part of the grounds as it was raining. Went to buy some honey for my daughters and chutney for my sister who recons it's the best she has ever tasted. Wonderful place and well worth a visit.

We visited with a group from our car club. We were given a tour of the orchard and the Cider making brew house. We also visited their Tea Rooms and enjoyed a light lunch. Service was poor.

What a peaceful place. Lovely grounds and surroundings, fantastic walks, visitor centre and lots more. We called in for lunch and were not disappointed, good service and varied choice. Surrounded by mouse man furniture a pleasure to dine there. All in all a very welcoming and pleasant visit will be going back as soon as we can.

This is a working monastery and public school - but don't be deterred! Spectacular site with incredible views and public access on nature walks, and footpaths, and free visitor centre. Dog friendly if on leads. Abbey is immediately adjacent to the public school, -- so also an insight into how the privileged live--school appears to have fifteen all weather tennis... More

Thank you for your kind words - we were delighted to hear that you had an enjoyable experience. As well as a working monastery, Ampleforth is home to almost 600 students. Sport and extra curricular activities play a key part in school life, hence the need for plenty of sports facilities! We also run an extensive outreach programme where we... More

They've really made an effort to enlighten visitors to their (free of charge) Visitor Centre by providing excellent explanatory material in the three main rooms. The guide who was on hand on the 27th May, to elaborate and provide further explanations was not only most interesting but also an excellent ambassador. A visit to the Abbey and 'mouse' spotting is... More

Thank your for your lovely comments. We're sorry to hear that service in the Tea Room was slow - we do experience busy periods but our staff try to ensure this does not impact on service. I will pass on your comments to the team. More

A beautiful place. The visitors centre was enlightening to what the Abbey was all about, and the life of the Monks.

Having been walking on the Moors all day we decided to call in at the Abbey although late afternoon and the facilities were closed. What an exceptional place. We were allowed to go into the Abbey , that shop and cafe ( both closed ) and anywhere we wished and all staff members were pleasant and helpful. The buildings are... More

Visited the abbey whilst visiting the adjacent college/school. Lovely buildings set in beautiful location. Interesting visitor centre and shop. Also very nice tea room. The buildings and location are just first class and the journey to the abbey from York about 35 minutes away was just great. Not enough however to keep me occupied and one or two of the... More
