- Lorig20005 contributionsA great Christmas productionWent the production of The Christmas Carol. It was a one man production. It was phenomenal production. Nathan Schmidt Is an amazing actor, playing a storyteller. He tells the story of Ebenezeer Scrooge and the three ghost using a candle, a few drapes and three apple crates. He manages the amount of dialogue with ease and humour, drawing the audience into the tale. The dinner before hand was delicious. We were also serenaded with a few Christmas songs by a couple of the Rosebud School of Arts students with angelic voices. A great evening. We spend the night at the exquisite Banks and Braes B&B.Visited December 2021Written December 18, 2021
- Trudy I1 contributionDelight your sensesWe go to the Rosebud theatre every year, sometimes twice a year. We have never been disappointed in the quality theatre productions put on by the Rosebud School of the Arts. The buffet dinner before the show is well worth the cost. The food is great, the desserts are better, and the performers do a walk through serenade while you eat. We've stayed in town at the Rosebud Country Inn, drove in to Drumheller, and most recently stayed at Banks and Braes (it is our new favorite.. hands down... I'll review that separately) If you've never been to Rosebud...GO. All of your senses will be delighted you did.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten July 30, 2023

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a fabulous adaptation of C.S.Lewis novel. World class talent and a delicious meal. Rosebud town has storybook quality. This is the place to be this Christmas. the meal and the live show was,as usual, unbelievable. The quaint hamlet opens its doors to the thousands of visitors who come to be engaged in their school of the arts performances.

The theatre experience is like any other elsewhere: riveting and cathartic. A special bonus, however, is the pre-theatre meal with tableside live music. That is what makes Rosebud Theatre stand out!

If you hit the right play, the performances are very well done. Choose a play that you have heard of before. They did a tremendous job of “Jake and the Kid”, and also “the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”
Food is buffet, and therefore somewhat mediocre.
Staff is attentive and there are usually travelling singers .

You like having your emotions ripped from within, repackaged, stuffed back into your soul and then kicked out the door?
If you're like me, a good time of simultaneously laughing and crying can be exhausting but very invigorating. The writing is that good.
If I have to give some sort of negative it would be the over-the-top southern accent of Grace but that was forgiven within minutes into the play as their acting overcame my trivial bias. You can take that as a testament of the acting skills of these two women.
Bottom line, if you like the emotional whipsaw of Steele Magnolia you will like this.
What a great start to the rosebud season. Especially this seasons.
So do yourself a favor, go see it even if only for treatment of your spring fever. But be prepared for a challenge.

I have been to Rosebud Theatre many times but I have not reviewed it on Trip Advisor and feel that I must.
We went to see The Mountaintop, a story about Martin Luther King Jr. and his assassination in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. It was thought provoking (even after all these years), current (sadly in this day and age), humourous and of course, extremely moving (tears at the end). The actors were superb; there is simply nothing else to say about them. We were captivated the entire time.
There is lunch or dinner included with your ticket and because we were there for a matinee performance, lunch was delicious. Service was great and the performers who come by your table or nearby, are very talented and a lovely addition to lunch.
The hamlet of Rosebud is quaint and very welcoming. A few shops to investigate as well as a museum and a few quality B&B's to stay at if so desired. With only about 90 minutes separating Calgary from Rosebud, it is well worth the drive to the scenic Rosebud valley.

Is the theatre 'stepped'? Where is a good place to sit for someone 4 foot 6 inches tall?

Hi Sheryl,
The natural amphitheatre is steeply 'stepped' so all seats are good for anyone of any height. Lots of young children attend. You would be best served with a seat close to the center. Have fun!

Hello. Yes, we have gluten free items on our buffet that are marked and cooked separately. If in doubt, a server or someone from the kitchen should be able to find out.

We found it very casual. Some folks with shorts and a golf shirt. Some dressed up fancy. There wasnt really isn't anything too formal.

What is the difference between the buffet and the plate service?
RosebudTheatreRep
Rosebud, Canada
Hi jbr0st,
Plate service is an upgrade to a 3 course meal available to patrons that would not like to dine at the buffet. When you book your tickets you can request this service and order off the menu when you are seated for your meal.
Plate service check-in is between 11:00 & 11:30 for the matinee and 5:30 & 6:00 for the evening.
Please note: Dietary restrictions should be mentioned to the Box Office when you are booking tickets or in the comments section for online bookings, even if you are dining at the Buffet so we can ensure options are available.

What are the start times fir dinner and theatre?
Is there a dress code?
Peter D

In regards to your question on the Dinner, you are encouraged to be there 2.5hrs ahead of time. The meal times depends on weather you are attending a matinee (11:00-11:30 or 5:30-6:00) or a evening show. Leave lots of time for the meal and visiting as there is a great opportunity for both
As far as dress I would agree with John on Business casual to casual but would recommend comfort as your primary goal.
Also take time to enjoy the businesses that come alive around show time hours. All in all an enjoyable evening.
