You like having your emotions ripped from within, repackaged, stuffed back into your soul and then kicked out the door?
If you're like me, a good time of simultaneously laughing and crying can be exhausting but very invigorating. The writing is that good.

If I have to give some sort of negative it would be the over-the-top southern accent of Grace but that was forgiven within minutes into the play as their acting overcame my trivial bias. You can take that as a testament of the acting skills of these two women.

Bottom line, if you like the emotional whipsaw of Steele Magnolia you will like this.
What a great start to the rosebud season. Especially this seasons.
So do yourself a favor, go see it even if only for treatment of your spring fever. But be prepared for a challenge.

Went the production of The Christmas Carol. It was a one man production. It was phenomenal production. Nathan Schmidt Is an amazing actor, playing a storyteller. He tells the story of Ebenezeer Scrooge and the three ghost using a candle, a few drapes and three apple crates. He manages the amount of dialogue with ease and humour, drawing the audience into the tale. The dinner before hand was delicious. We were also serenaded with a few Christmas songs by a couple of the Rosebud School of Arts students with angelic voices. A great evening. We spend the night at the exquisite Banks and Braes B&B.

I have been to Rosebud Theatre many times but I have not reviewed it on Trip Advisor and feel that I must.

We went to see The Mountaintop, a story about Martin Luther King Jr. and his assassination in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. It was thought provoking (even after all these years), current (sadly in this day and age), humourous and of course, extremely moving (tears at the end). The actors were superb; there is simply nothing else to say about them. We were captivated the entire time.

There is lunch or dinner included with your ticket and because we were there for a matinee performance, lunch was delicious. Service was great and the performers who come by your table or nearby, are very talented and a lovely addition to lunch.

The hamlet of Rosebud is quaint and very welcoming. A few shops to investigate as well as a museum and a few quality B&B's to stay at if so desired. With only about 90 minutes separating Calgary from Rosebud, it is well worth the drive to the scenic Rosebud valley.

Go support this amazing charitable organization!

Went there with another couple who gave us the tickets as a birthday present. Never went there before so it was an adventure for us. Loved the whole experience. Buffet lunch was included and it was very good. Went to see the play " The Christmas Story". It was very well done and had everyone entertained.

Just took in the Dinner Theatre at Rosebud, Alberta. The classic "A Christmas Story" was playing and it truly was an excellent presentation. The actors were engaging, the set was well done, and of course it is hard to go wrong with this classic story.
As a starter we took in the pre show lunch and that is a delight to tempt ones palate. The food was endless and a huge selection of very tasty treats and surprises.

A visit to see a show at Rosebud Theatre can be all day activity. Rosebud is a quaint little village located just about an hour and a half east of Calgary and in the Canadian Badlands. There are a few eclectic little shops on the main street that are fabulous to stroll through all located within steps of the Rosebud Mercantile building where you pick up your theatre and lunch tickets. If it's not quite lunch time yet, you can peruse the different displays that show props and posters from previous shows as well as miniature displays of various sets. There is also a little shop connected to this area with lots of unique items.
Lunch is buffet-style and there are several different dining rooms that you could be brought into to enjoy your meal. Our waitress was lovely and gave us a tour of the buffet area then took our beverage orders. The buffet was in a few different sections - there was a salad bar as well as a soup bar, a hot area that had meat and veggies and then a dessert room. There were enough selections that everyone had a fairly full plate by the time we made our way back to our table. We were there just after opening, so all the food was hot and fresh and very tasty. Different dishes were quickly replaced as they got a little low.
After your meal, you make your way across the street to the theatre which has the sign Rosebud Opera House on the front. We were seated in the near the front and I found that legroom was fine between the rows. I did notice the stage does noticeably slant towards the audience making it easy to see when the actors are farther back on set. There are aisles on either side of the theatre, so even if you have one of the side seats, you still have a decent view of the stage.
The play The Mountaintop was amazing. It was a fictional rendition of Martin Luther King's last evening at the Lorraine Hotel before he was assassinated. A maid comes to his room and we discover that she is really an angel in disguise who has been sent to collect MLK. Once he realizes that he is to die, MLK goes through the various stages of grief, some with raised voice as he shares how frustrated he is and how much work he still has left. We also get to hear a bit more of the maid's story and realize that this experience is really for the both of them. The actors themselves were fantastic and really drew you in to the story. Even though the play has no intermission the pace of the play flows so well that keeps your attention right until the end. After the show, the had a question and answer period with the actors in the theatre, but unfortunately we were not able to stay.

We have been to Rosebud Theatre many times but this time was a dud! We were excited to go see this Performance about Martin Luther King but was very disappointed.
All it was about was a hooker angel and King yelling at each other the entire time the night before he died. Way to much yelling! There was lite mention of the Black Panthers, or his work. The spoof on God was NOT funny at all.
God is not a woman and your sins aren't forgiven if you go get someone when they die. Really the only meaningful part of the play was at the end when he gets shot. A major disappointment. We know you can do better Rosebud!

Way to much acting about smoking, and about his attraction to the maid!
