Great experience going to the Victoria Butterfly Gardens. Located 3 km from the more popular (and expensive) Butchart Gardens, this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. With 4 generations in our group, it satisfied all of us. From 91 to 7 years old. It was walkable, had benches to sit/rest and really enjoyed the atmosphere. With tons of butterflies flying around along with other birds and parrots, it was a real treat.

Skip the more expensive gardens (especially with a group of 5 or more) and visit the Victoria Butterfly Gardens.

Stayed on the harbor in Victoria. Don't expect to sleep in because the sightseeing planes take off and are really loud between 630am and 730 am. And the ferry announces it's coming with a loud horn blast around the same time.

I’ve been to butterfly gardens before, but I still enjoyed our visit here. I bought our tickets online and got a 10% discount using a Tourism Victoria discount code.

The first section is an insectarium where there is an assortment of different insects. Mu favourite was actually the ant nest as they set it up so they to travel a single long path to get to their food source. Watching the thousands of ants was like watching a nature documentary.

The 2nd section is the actual garden that houses the butterflies, as well as tortoises, flamingos, koi, etc. It was fun to discover each as we walked around the space. Just keep in mind it’s hot and humid inside so dress accordingly.

Overall it was a nice visit. We probably spent about 45min there. A lot of fun for everyone of all ages.

There were a lot of butterflies in these gardens, but we were also surprised and happy to see birds and fish, too. The exterior area also has several exhibits with various insects, but the main attraction was the larger area where the butterflies, birds, and other animals roam free. My teens were delighted to have butterflies land on them and to spot birds and fish in the small rivers. We spent about 30 minutes here and might have enjoyed staying longer and just sitting and watching the animals.

A well organized and interesting stop on our recent visit to Vancouver Island. We took about an hour to see everything. Besides butterflies, there are different insects, turtles, koi fish, and birds (parrots, flamingos, etc). The Butterfly Gardens are located very near to Butchart Garden and both can be done for a lovely day trip.

The butterflies were everywhere! Thoughtful children would love this. The insect section on the way in is amazing as well. It takes a while to see each type of insect but it is well worth the time. We don’t see insects like that in Canada.

It starts off with some interesting insect exhibits before hitting the tropical gardens! No jacket required! LoL. There was a variety of butterflies and a few butterfly friendly birds including a pink flamingo. I definitely felt the butterfly area could have used way more information stations or a brochure or something. It was a reasonable price for a few hours of entertainment.

Not a huge place, but lots of butterflies with turtles, tortoises, parrots, frogs, flamingo and an iguana. Also a small insect viewing area before you enter. Small but well maintained. We enjoyed it more than the Butchart Gardens and very reasonably priced.

The garden is not very big, but is well maintained by a friendly staff. It was a good place to keep two young ones entertained for about an hour or so. Other than the butterflies and birds in the green house, there were also some displays outside showing hosting ant colonies and other insects which the kids really enjoyed!

This is a great spot to go to especially if you plan on visiting Butchart Gardens on the same day.

Much smaller facility than anticipated based on the website. Not much to see other than the butterflies themselves. Probably took us 20 minutes in total. Skip it if you have other places to go after visiting butchart gardens.
