We went on the audio guided tour of the gaol and its was fascinating. Well worth the visit. It took about 1.5 - 2 hours to wonder around the place, in and out of cell blocks and other rooms. Looks just like it was left when it closed. Wear repellent if you hate mosquitoes there are a few around.

What a fabulous tour we had, it was a guided tour by one of the former inmates, he was both informative, on all levels, told us stories that some did not want to hear, but it was part of the Gaol life, and he did not pull any punches, told it like it was. Scary also in some parts of... More

We visited at opening time and did the escapes self-guided tour. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and found it interesting. We would have preferred a guided tour but all were booked out - we should have booked earlier. Still worth the visit.

excellent place to visit - the staff were uniformly great: welcoming and knowledgeable. we did the self guided tour and it was grim stuff but the audio track was top notch with commentary and interviews with ex-inmates.

A time to reflect on the life of past inmates. I really wanted to take a guided tour but was unable. The self guided tour was just as informative and this is an experience worth taking the whole family to. An eye opener for one and all.

We went along with our children to Maitland Goal. We did the self guided tour which had different commentary for the kids to the adults to keep them entertained. We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We followed up with a great lunch at the Blackbird Café next door. All in all, a great day.

Fantastic day at Bitter & Twisted at the Maitland Gaol. Well organised event with plenty of beer to taste and food to eat. Went with friends on the Sunday marked as family day. I would not recommend taking children to this event as the ones we saw were bored and unhappy. Entertainment was excellent. Transportation by train was easy and... More

This gaol is truely amazing . If you enjoy a good history lesson it fills in the gaps . We found navigating around a little difficult as some repairs are taking place . It would be lovely if a little cafe was on site (take drinks and snacks) We are going to do the night tour next time . An... More

Spent a lovely day in the goal attending a festival. The goal grounds and buildings are well kept and very interresting to walk around. Inside the buildings was cool relief from a very hot day.
