When you drive to Pedernales, you see the Sierra de Bahoruco at your right hand side. Turn right before entering Pedernales. Our goal was to visit Hoyo de Pelempito. At the entrance of the National Park we talked to the park rangers. They showed us a colorful bauxite mine just before the entrance at your left hand side. From the park entrance to Hoyo de Pelempito it's quite a distance. Especially the last 7 km are difficult. You don't necessarily need a 4WD, but a SUV is highly recommended. The landscapes remind me of the Mediterranean or the Spanish interior: a fresh breeze, rather dry, pine trees... Going down again you have nice views over the coastline, with Bahia de las Aguilas in the distance.…

It is a very nice visit to a national park, you can visit the visitors center an appreciate how nature builded a hole of about 6,000 feet street down perpendicular to the surface. You also can appreciate de different between a dry forest down in pedernales and a weat forest up in the park.…
