About
Hillier Creek Estates Winery is located in scenic Prince Edward County. After building our vineyards and winery from the ground up, we first opened our doors in the spring of 2010. The centerpiece of our property, is a beautifully restored 1860s post and beam barn. It has been transformed into our winery, tasting room, and retail store. Our barn is an eye catching piece of county history directly visible from the Loyalist Parkway. We invite you to tour our vineyards (currently growing Gamay, Vidal, and Baco Noir grapes) and winery to learn about our grape growing and wine making process - or simply come and enjoy a glass of wine overlooking our beautiful creek.

The worst of all places we've seen. Unfriendly staff, dogs running around barking towards guests. Some of us are really afraid of dogs charging but owners didn't seem to care or apologize. Grounds are beautiful. Did not like the wine and the attitude.

Our last stop after 15 wineries. Huge property. Had a big of a how-down feel to the barn. We didnt sit and eat, but they looked like they had a really nice patio in the back. Lisa was the best part of the tasting. She was sweet and kind. The wine was good, but not great.

VERY dog friendly, attentive staff, thin crust wood fired pizza, good wine, awesome patio - what more could you ask for?

Remember - this is a winery first and a restaurant 2nd. They have a handful of thin crust pizza's. If you don't see it on the menu they likely don't have it. They have more wine than you can shake a stick at. If you want commodity food and drink this isn't the place for you but if you sit back and relax you are guaranteed to enjoy.

Late Harvest Vidal - personal favourite. Light and sweet for a perfect summer's day!

Visited Hillier Creek Winery on Friday, July 31st. This was our second visit. Nothing beats sitting outside on their beautiful outdoor patio, featuring comfortable wicker furniture. Their delicious mouth watering wood oven pizza coupled with Cuvée Red was awesome on a sunny summer afternoon. Cheers! Will be back again for sure.

The winery is on beautiful grounds with a lovely creek flowing through a serene garden behind the tasting room. The vineyard is adjacent to the Loyalist Parkway, the primary route into Prince Edward County from the west. The tasting room staff welcomed me as an employee of Casa-Dea Estate Winery into a small but well-proportioned tasting room. Their tasting fees are modest. Hillier Creek wines are mostly VQA Ontario from 30 acres of Estate-grown grapes, including some Niagara-sourced grapes (presumably at least the Syrah and their Vidal IceWine).
My favorite wine was the first—a semi-dry 2012 Estate Riesling. This wine displays the typical minerality of the County terroir, with a taste similar to crisp Granny Smith apple. The 2012 (unoaked) Chardonnay was clean and refreshing, also with a hint of the unique aromas and flavour imparted by the broken limestone and clay soils of the Hillier region.
Next I tried a newly-released Gamay Rosé (not mentioned on the website). It has a delicate strawberry nose, and is dry on the palate with a hint of residual sugar, slightly sweeter than Casa-Dea’s sparkling Dea’s Rosé also made from Gamay.
Turning to the red wines, Gamay-based wines in the County have a wide range of presentations, ranging from rich fruitiness with light tannins to leathery austerity. Hillier’s 2012 Gamay Noir leads with a scent of wood ash, and opens into sour cherry with a hint of licorice on the palate.
The tendency to a muscular dryness continued with my tasting of two 2009 Pinot Noirs, which had (respectively) two and three years of aging in new French and Canadian oak. They surprized me and reminded me of other pricey Pinot Noirs in the County, but I prefer Pinot that is softer and more balanced. The decision to produce powerful Pinot Noir is probably a function of not having any Cabernet Franc, which produces excellent medium-bodied wines at several County wineries.
When I visited they had sold out of 2012 Vidal IceWine (but will soon release a new vintage), 2012 Barrel-aged Chardonnay, and 2014 Gamay Nouveau. I did not try the 2008 Colonel’s Cuvee or the 2012 blended Rosé.

The whole experience was strange. We booked a tour through a county company and went to several wineries. Hiller was not our favourite. The wine was sub par from others we tried in the county and the staff was not as accommodating as other establishments either. Overall I wouldn't go back as we've had better experiences elsewhere.

Rustic charm, kind and helpful staff, beautiful country scenery and tasty wine are a few words for Hillier Creek Estates. Our wedding reception in the "red barn" was nothing but magical. It had the 'rustic elegance' that we were looking for along with the friendly relaxing atmosphere. From the initial event planning with Kimberly to the wedding reception I was consistently pleased with the service and professionalism provided. I highly recommend Hillier Creek Estates for any event that you may be looking for. The owner also popped by at one point in the early evening to the pleasure of the guests who were very curious about the workings of the vineyard, it added to the warm welcome.

Warm and inviting right from the minute we walked in as the door was being held open for our group by the owner. We were brought upstairs in the wonderful old barn and told all about the hard work that went into this retirement project. We were given charcuterie trays to share and eat with our wine tastings. There were more great stories about the wines and lots of information. Then we all were served a delicious meal of wood fired pizza and salad served with a glass of wine outside overlooking the grounds. I can't wait to go back.

Amber and Tom made our group feel incredibly welcome. The young staff were very friendly and knowledgable. The wines, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (unoaked) were both fine and delicious thin crust pizzas were a perfect compliment to the wine, the welcome and the friendly gathering. And, at a moments notice, Tom will hop on his bike with you and give a personal guided tour of the neighbourhood!
