About
Closson Chase is a quality-driven producer that has helped spearhead the birth of the Prince Edward County wine industry. Since 1999, it has been committed to creating distinctive wines that rival the world’s finest. Set in Hillier, Ontario, the estate is over 30 acres of south facing, limestone-rich soil under vine; planted high density to the classic Burgundian-varietals of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with small yields, French-inspired vinification and careful barreling in 100% French oak.

    Mighty Impressive!
We recently visited Closson Chase for wine tasting and lunch at Bantam Farmhouse. The wines offered the strongest possible recommendation for the results the Hillier Township terroir offers. The experience convinced us that a wine club membership was a must with several benefits. The lunch menu is varied and the watermelon soup, in particular, encourages return visits. The chef very kindly shared the soup recipe and I’ve been able to make it for family and friends with consistent praise. One of the member benefits is an opportunity for a guided tour of The Ridge winemaking facility with Closson Chase’s head winemaker Keith Tyers. His 24 years with the winery made for a highly informative, insightful and often amusing hour of conversation and tasting some truly remarkable chardonnay and pinot noir vintages. Any future visit to Prince Edward County with family and friends will certainly include a stop at Closson Chase where the staff are both friendly and helpful. We are now looking forward with anticipation to the arrival of our first wine club shipment.

Beautiful place, good wine, good service!
Wonderful place! Charming, a beautiful purple farmhouse, beautifully furnished. A person who introduces us to wines with strands of history which makes everything even more interesting. The lady even brought us drawings to occupy the children with popcicles. Very good wines, a very nice experience!

    excellent
Excellent wine tasting experience. It was pouring rain, so we could not enjoy the outdoor garden tables, but stayed inside the renovated barn. Our server was delightful and friendly, and the wine tastings very reasonably priced for the quality. The selection of snacks was excellent, especially given a vegetarian in our group (more is available at the adjoining restaurant). We were not rushed in the least, and our servers had a good mix of being willing to provide information but not hover. Recommend,

Wines were decent. Food was reasonable. Fine atmosphere, albeit a bit on the corporate side. It would have been a good visit if it weren't for the insufferable server. He kept on saying "guys" and spoke so loudly at all times, even in close proximity -- sometimes taking his mask off as well. I'm sure some of the older visitors were charmed, but we found him grating and it spoiled the experience.

I have been coming to the County annually for the past 9 years and this is still one of my favourite wineries for consistently good Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. On my most recent trip, it was still kind of chilly, so we sat inside their tasting room. It's a very cozy, inviting space and they were super welcoming towards our pup - even giving her a little treat :) If you do a tasting, you get 10% off whatever bottles you purchase. I found the staff here knowledgable and kind. Don't forget to snap your pic in front of their distinctive purple barn!

I'm really glad we stopped in here! They have a beautiful outdoor garden area set up with tables and chairs, and they bring your tasting flights/glasses to you, table service. I liked that! The young woman who served us was good at explaining the different types of wine so I was able to choose the ones I'd prefer for my flight. The garden was manicured, and the tables/chairs were spaced out nicely. I hope they continue to offer this next season when (hopefully) covid is a thing of the past. I wasn't able to try the rosé on my flight that I had hoped to, as it was sold out, but I did quite enjoy the others I selected. I'll come back again as it was quite an enjoyable visit.

I was fortunate enough to come back to PEC with some of my coworkers from the city for a quick get away. Closson was highly recommend from various other wineries as well as eateries in the area. We travelled on bikes with a group of 7. The hosts took great care of us at the door and we were even offered water while we waited for our table to be prepared. Once we sat down we enjoyed fresh wraps and mini cheese plates, our server Cassidy took great care of us and was highly knowledge about the estate wines as well as activities, places to eat and scenic views of the county. I could not be happier without experience with Cassidy. Please stop by and ask for her, you will not be disappointed.

This was our first stop and we loved every minute of it. Washrooms are clean and wheelchair accessible. Staff were all is masks and this was the only place where you sat and the staff brought you the tastings. Very classy. The others (except for Rosehall) you stand at the bar behind plexiglass with others waiting behind you as well... so it’s a bit of a rushed experience. Not here, you sit in nice chairs in their garden and they bring you the wines you’ve selected. Lovely place and classy.

This has been a go-to destination for years but over time, wine prices have increased significantly without any better products. Oh, and, despite them saying they would never “do weddings” or private events for so many years (!!!). they turn out to be money hungry owners, closing the place down for the fancy private events just to make a bigger buck. No concern for the typical client or visitor who get tuned down upon arrival despite driving over 3 hours to get there! And that DESPITE their site announcing they are opened… no.,. NO! All closed for private- money-driven purposes!

We loved the pinot noir and the chardonnay. We had these wines at restaurants in Picton
We made a detour on the way home just to purchase these wines. Next year this winery will be on our list for tasting and of course a few purchases.

This was our last stop for the weekend before we left the County. We have not been here in a while and were impressed by how well maintained it is. Beautiful flowers, fruit trees, roses, clean, friendly. $15 for a flight of 3 sips is a bit pricy but the atmosphere made up for that.

We were not treated well. Having heard about this winery through friend of one of the owners we were expecting a lovely experience. The staff did not greet us. They were all over the place…but nobody seemed to notice we were standing at the door. We walked in hoping to get someone attention…still nothing. When we walked right out onto the patio and asked if we could have a table under an umbrella a staff member told us we could sit in the rain. Yes…sit IN THE RAIN!!! And this was said as he walked by not giving us the time of day! We were expecting a lovely tasting with the hopes of adding some wine to our cellar! We moved on other wineries in the area.

We had been here before, and really enjoyed it. Went again, there was a major thunderstorm, and literally told by a worker to get out because they had an event happening. Zero regard for our safety driving in a severe thunderstorm. I understand wanting to clear people out, but you have to give grace when it is legitimately unsafe. There was also a better way to phrase it.
Would never come back.
We were paying costumers. What terrible customer service. It is absurd to expect people to leave in the middle of a thunderstorm?? Respect that people could have major anxieties driving in such weather. As we left, the road was littered with tree branches.
Never going back. Plenty of other wonderful wineries that have exceptional customer service. Skip this one.
