About
The lighthouse at Cape St. Mary has served as a navigational beacon for generations of local fishers and residents. In 2017, the Municipality of Clare took possession of the Cape Saint Mary Lighthouse and property, following a divestiture process with the federal government. Work began in July 2017 with the repainting of the tower, replacement of the roof, and replacement of the vinyl siding with cedar shingles. Along the cliff side of the property, the chain-link fence has been replaced with nautical-style post and rope. New amenities include: gravel parking lot, welcome sign, picnic shelter accessible for wheelchairs, viewing scope, interpretive panels explaining history of the lighthouse, local marine ecology, and even the fog. The park's centrepiece is a monument commemorating those lost to the sea in the Municipality of Clare. Local sculptor Marc Graff was commissioned to carve the granite mariner that sits on top of the memorial. Outdoor portable toilets onsite.

Short drive from Maviellette Beach is the lovely Cape Saint Mary Lighthouse site. Large parking lot that is wheelchair accessible. Glorious views of the sea and the shaggy cliffs. Large memorial to mariners lost at sea. Small seating area to sit and enjoy the stunning views - also small washroom on site.

Stopped at this beautiful lighthouse today after going to Mavilette Beach. This place offers nice views with different angles.
They did an awesome job at upkeeping this lighthouse.
I will be back.

A great stop on our coastal drive. Terrific views at this heritage sight. The tribute to mariners helps put mariner life in perspective. Well maintained and easy to navigate.

Not far from Maviellette Beach is the lovely Cape Saint Mary Lighthouse site. It has a large parking area and is accessible by wheelchair. The cliffs here are something to be seen, but heed the warning signs. There is also a memorial to mariners. In addition, the drive back offers stunning views of Maviellette Beach.

Would like to congratulate the Municipality of Clare for the beautiful work they have done in restoring the Lighthouse and creating and maintaining this lighthouse park so well for visitors. We have visited the area for many years and so we can appreciate the work that has gone into it.

Went back as sun was shining on this wonderful spot after a overcast day . We were the only visitors at that time . Scenic views and monument . Close to beach which would spectacular but day was not favourable . A must to see.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate that you enjoyed your visit at the lighthouse park. As you had experienced, the site is an enjoyable detour regardless of the weather. In foggy conditions you will most likely be treated to hearing the foghorn, an attraction in itself.

Thank you for your review. We're pleased you enjoyed the park's amenities and close proximity to Mavillette Beach, a very scenic 2-3 minute drive by auto. Our lighthouse park is open year-round and free.

Another lighthouse review! Located off the Lighthouse Route highway ( we were travelling from Digby, NS to Yarmouth, NS). Has nice views. There is also a monument with the names of those lost at sea. It is located in a fishing community. Lots of parking.

Thank you for your review. We're pleased that you enjoyed the site and its scenic location. Just to clarify, our lighthouse park is located a short 5 minute drive from the main road along the Evangeline Trail (or Highway 1). The Lighthouse Route is the name of the scenic highway along the South Shore from Yarmouth to Halifax.

Drove up and hiked about and used the telescope to look across the harbor. Very pretty
We were there at low tide. I’m sure it is spectacular at high tide with the waves crashing on the rocks. Bring bug spray the mosquitoes are huge !

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. We're pleased you enjoyed your visit to our new park. Typically the bugs are not a major issue as there are usually nice ocean breezes. At high tide you will definitely see more wave action looking down from the clifftops.

The memorial to those from the county lost at sea in the past 250 years was very moving. It's a pretty spot too and has a lovely view of the bay.

Is the parking lot big enough for a large 5th wheel to park and turn around to exit?
