Excellent ride

We rode from Tahunanui to Mapua with an adult, 13 and 9 year olds. It was a really nice, but long, ride. We had to take food as there was nothing for sale on the route until mapua. We just got there for the final ferry which only runs once an hour in summer so beware of that! Great to... More

We hired e-bikes in Mapua for a day trip via Rabbit Island to Seifried winery and back again. The bikes were fantastic and the staff at the shop were very helpful, friendly and knowledgable. A short hop on the ferry over to Rabbit Island and off we went. It was enjoyable cycling especially the bridges and wodden boardwalks over the... More

Our 4 day ride was very well organised by Trail Journeys. Accomodation and meals provided were excellent. We were transported over Pigeon hill. 2 of the team did ride it but it would have been too much for the rest of us. 2 members hired e bikes which they say made the entire trip very enjoyable and easy. The hill... More

We biked the first part from Nelson to Mapua on a sunny, windless morning. This trail is very well made and marked, with information boards about the history of the area. It is almost flat, an easy ride that took us around 2.5 to 3 hours. Definitely recommended.

This lovely trail is well marked and connects many fun spots to stop and check out. Some of the spots on the trail are a few km off the bicycle route, though, and that can make for a few kms of harrowing driving on the side of the road with big trucks! Thankfully, they don't last long and it was... More

We rode over summer from Mapua around the Wakefield and then up and over Pigeon Valley into Woodstock. the trip was wonderful but unless you are fit, I would not recommend the trip up Pigeon Valley road although the trip down from the top was excellent. There are not that many stops to get food and drink so make sure... More

My husband and I hired bikes at Nelson Bike hire and left the Airport on our six day unsupported ride, to enjoy a safe designated cycleway around the bay to Richmond then across Rabbit Isl and Mapua on the first night. Most of it was self explanatory but at times I felt unsure of how long it would all take... More

The Great Taste Trail when completed will offer a 170km loop cycle trail. Right now one can ride from Nelson to Kaiteriteri on a well designed cycleway with a host of attractions that will delight the most jaded palate. From Nelson it is a very easy to take a day trip and ride to Mapua with plenty of places to... More

We had an AWESOME time on this cycle trail! The trail was our reason for going to Nelson, The trail, weather, bikes (bikes hired from Trail Journeys - also recommended) etc all contributed to an amazing adventure. I thought the trail was the best I have been on so far. Over the 3 day ride, the changing sceneries of rural,... More

This is a great cycling trail suitable for the leisure cyclist. We used Trail Journeys for bikes, accommodation and luggage transfers, who were excellent. On day 1, you have a leisurely cycle on a old rail trail from Nelson to Wakefield area. Day 2, you get a van transfer over the hilly bit to where the road becomes sealed. Then... More
