    So glad we did it!
This climb will test your cardiovascular fitness. Our family has varying levels of fitness but we all have strong will and patience! Those of us that needed to take breaks did from time to time but we all finished in 1.5 hours. We spent the day at Grouse Mountain first and then returned to the parking area to do the Grind. Even with a day pass for the mountain the trip down after the grind requires another gondola ticket for each person. All well worth it! The trail is very well maintained and the view from the top after 2800 steps is priceless!

Hard, but beautiful and a good challenge
Went as a duo - one 50+, one teenager. The teenager found it a breeze… the 50+ found it pretty hard going. It got noticeably easier after halfway, but that might be because we pulled out the hiking poles. Took us 1h 40m - general guideline is 2h to 2h 30m. The path is very clear, well signposted and there are regular tree markers saying 1/40, 2/40… all the way so you know pretty much exactly where you are up to. Well worth it - great sense of accident.

Challenging and rewarding walk to the top of Grouse Mountain
This was one of many day trips whilst visiting Vancouver. Caught the bus directly from downtown Vancouver and literally stops outside. Having queued for about 15 minutes to buy a ‘down’ ticket only, we were told they didn’t sell them there so had to go back to the visitor centre. Friendly service and once the tickets were bought we began our hike up the Grinder trail. The weather was very hot (28 degrees) and certainly the trail was demanding, with varying gradients and slopes and sections alternating between boarded steps and scree slopes. This is now the for the faint hearted! The trail was well marked with progress markers all the way up which was helpful. It took us just over 90 minutes to complete and did leave me with a sense of achievement. Overall a very positive, challenging experience

    Take the signs seriously.....!
If the people in charge already point out the "impending effort" more than just clearly before the start, then please take the notes seriously. If, after a quarter of the way, you are asked to listen to yourself again whether the fitness is adequate and the water supplies are still sufficient, this is not excessive scaremongering, but the need to save the untrained from "overconfidence" here. This is not a hiking trail in the "usual sense", this is a well-signposted, demanding workout with 2,830 steps, 800 meters of altitude and a length of 2.5 km - the best run it up in under 25 minutes, the average manages just under 2.5 hours. It’s a huge experience, but you’ll get some of it for the next few days after the climb.

Stairs that never seem to end
The grind is as hard as advertised but there was a wonderful feeling of accomplishment at the end. The day in general was wet but due to the trees the rain didn’t really affect climb. Best suggestion for beginners is to take breaks, once recovered move on through the next section.

    So Worthwhile!
Fantastic, and gruelling for my husband and I-early 60’s and decently ,fit and active. Our 22 year old son ran up it without breaking a sweat, while carrying the backpack! We must get the prize for slowest ascent: 4 hours! We didn’t have enough water which was a factor in our pace.

    Great day out
Great fun. Not cheap (at $75 plus tax) but actually worth it. We got a 0915 sea bus from Waterfront to North Vancouver and then took (the seamless connecting) 236 bus to the attraction where we queued for 10 minutes for tickets ( we got $10 discount pp as we had $8 transit system day tickets). No gondola queue so straight up to the top. Lovely coffee overlooking the view down the mountain then off to the lumberjack show (corny but fun). Up the chairlift for more views sitting in the thoughtfully provided chairs. Down the lift for a rusty nail burger and beer - not cheap but good and fantastic corn on the cob. Pretty much worn out after 10000 steps we left on the free attraction bus at 14:30 arriving back to the Waterfront at 15:00.

    The Grouse Grind for grandparents!
Not for the faint-hearted but doable and rewarding! We made a last minute decision to do the Grind and so were not dressed particularly appropriately - denim jeans not our usual hiking gear!! It is certainly a test of legs and stamina - we are both in our 60s and reasonably fit and we rested a few times on the way up. It took us 1hr 52min 29secs and we proudly took our photo against the timer at the top!!

A few moms from the school set up a challenge. We trained knowing our gr 7 kids were going to hike with their teacher in June. It motivated us to meet at the gym for 30 min every Monday. When the day came for the grouse grind, we enjoyed each other’s company on the way up the mountain. Snacked a little on fruit as we chatted and observed the gorgeous fauna. The path was well maintained by North Vancouver. Sat on a bench at half way point but not for long so, we can keep up momentum. Once at the top we were exhilarated not tired. It was great to accomplish this hike as it’s history. But it would be very gruelling if done alone. Get a buddy to go with and take your time. You’ll be glad to say you did it!

This is such a neat hike, it's 2.6km and 800km of elevation and it's feels like you are going upstairs for hours. We finished in about 3 hours, with lots a breaks and photos, etc. But the average is 1.5 hours and the fastest people doing it do it in 25 to 30 mins! So regular people can probably do it in 2-2.5 hours. But still worth it to see the trail and the views. Once you get to the top you can go down for $20/person.

The legendary Grouse Grind highly exceeded my expectations. It is brutal.

But it is a must if you are in Vancouver area and in a good shape.

You can expect nothing but steep climb, sweat, pulled muscles, dizziness, you can feel out of breath but you will be proud of yourself for making it to the top.

Good footwear only. Bring enough water and maybe a protein bar or two. Enjoy the views. Take the gondola down.

One of a kind experience.

Fantastic nature trail composed of stones and log stairs for 800m elevation over 3 kilometres. One hour is doable with no breaks if you are ok-conditioned. Sneakers are good at least if no rain. Fun fact: Canucks hockey player Daniel Sedin did this 11 times a day with average 1h/round.

A must do for the athlete in you! The hike up is very challenging, but very safe. This will test even the most fit athlete. (You can take a gondola). Kids….. The hike is only suitable for younger teens who are fit.

You are rewarded once you arrive to the top of the mountain. There some kids activities, a bear den with a couple grizzly bears and a wonderful, lumberjack show.

I enjoyed this activity and would highly recommend!

I adored this mountain so much the first time I climbed it, I jumped at the chance to bring my teens along with me a few years later. Super hard and super rewarding.

If I lived in Vancouver, I would do this every single day.

You’ve got to do this. It is BRUTAL and unless you are fit (I am not) then pace yourself. Go early and take your time; one step at a time. There are no views on the way up just trees and steps and more steps. But the view at the top is incredible. Easy public transport to get here from downtown; seabus to Lonsdale then the #236 to Grouse Mountain

As newcomers to Vancouver, my husband and I are exploring the area. We love to hike and many locals had mentioned the “Grouse Grind”. So we started out and realized quickly that it was a good challenge (thus the fitting name).
When we reached the 1/4 way mark, we let out a breath and contemplated continuing. But I’m glad we did...we finished under 2 hours and the views from the top are beautiful! The gondola ride down was a treat! If you’re in shape, go hike this mountain.

The hike was fine. The scenery was nice. The people sucked. Dont think of this as an average hike through the woods. Its not. Its a bunch of sweaty, rude people who are willing to push you out of the way if you hike too slow. I would not recommend it to anyone. If you like hiking, avoid this place and find a more peaceful place. This is more like a mad rush up a mountain and God forbid if you get in someones way and you will get in someones way. That I promise. I wondered how such a nice city could have riots after their hockey team lost in the Stanley Cup finals. Now it all makes sense. Its the people.

Vancouverites love and hate it at the same time. It is for sure the longest staircase in the region. What a great challenge no matter if you do it once or over and over again. The 2.9 kilometres doesn't sound like a lot but with 2800 feet (853m) of elevation and about a step per feet of elevation (approx. 2830), you are going to sweat. If you do it under 50 minutes you are already in really good shape and 1 hour is a great achievement as well. If you have never done it and you are not a sports fanatic expect 1.5 to 2hours if you never do any activities better don't do it or calculate over 2.5 hours and bring water and food. Once you are on the trail there is no short cut.
Once up there you can claim to be a Grinder and have bragging rights. It is much more rewarding than talking the Gondola up.
And yes expect that you are not the only one on the trail, but don't be fooled by the people who say it is far too crowded. There is always enough space and thanks to the crowd to can give and receive some encouraging words.
And the best benefit if you are not a pass holder... You only pay $15 for the Gondola ride down instead of over $50 and it includes all the perks of Grouse Mountain (bears, lumberjack show etc...)
Last but not least, bring a fresh shirt. You might need it on Top to not get cold.
Enjoy the Grind
