On Saturday, August 31, 1997, this former marathon runner climbed Grouse Mountain, a grueling grind that at the halfway point caused me to question my sanity☺ Florida marathons on level grade are a comparable breeze. The pain in my feet diminished that evening; Princess Diana...More

If you enjoy hiking, I would highly suggest going up Grouse Mountain via the Grouse Grind versus the Skyride (Gondola). While there aren't really any view points along the way and the trail is relatively narrow, it's a charming hike through the steep forest filled...More

Boy, did I underestimate the Grouse Grind. I had read reviews and thought to myself all these people must not be fit; ha, joke's on me! Like other reviewers have mentioned, this is very challenging but rewarding once you finish. Can I just mention I...More

Before setting off on our trip a few of my friends suggested that if we go to Grouse Mountain we must to the Grind. Now seeing as you can purchase a return gondola trip up to the mountain, taking any other route to the top...More

It is called grouse GRIND for a reason, we were a bit unprepared and cocky at first but half way up we realised that it wasn't the greatest idea to wear skinny jeans and canvas shoes for the grind. Apart from that the views were...More

I grew up in Vancouver and always heard about the Grouse Grind, but had to move away to try it as a tourist. Easily accessible by free shuttle if you park at Canada Place or easy drive over the Lions Gate Bridge and up Capilano...More

Great hike if you want to burn the most calories in the least amount of time. Only 3km, but it's a pretty steady uphilll climb. Easy access using public transit. Great view (I'm sure) if you happen to catch it on a clear day.

What an AMAZING way to experience Grouse Mountain by climbing the steps to the top then descending via the Gondola ($10 to ride down if you hiked up). It's quite a workout and you feel completely satisfied to accomplish this challenging activity. Once you reach...More

This is a physically and mentally punishing climb for the average hiker. (Like me.) Bring at least one dry layer of clothing. You'll be soaked with sweat by the end, but after a few minutes at the top you're going to get cold. Enjoy a...More

The Grouse Grind is mostly a training climb for locals, with no views until the top. With hundreds of people on the trail at any given time in the summer. It's good to do once just to experience it if you don't mind a crowded...More

James P I'm 57 years old and not a runner or gym rat. I'm wondering how old you are? Also, tho you say you have never really hiked before, do you ever do treadmill or stairmaster? I'm trying to figure out if I can even make it so would like to compare myself with you. Also, congrats on your good time at just over an hour! Thanks for the tip on packing light. I'm assuming no bathrooms en route but I'm sure I will be sweating my water out so that won't be a problem. The website says to bring a dry tshirt since it it cooler at the top. What do you think?

Take ur time and enjoy the hike. I did it as fast as I could. U can do it! But definitely take water. And buy a t-shirt at the top - gives the specifics -3000 steps, etc. Have fun!
I am wanting know if the grouse grind hike is open for the season(2016)?
