About
Our drop-in tour hours are from 1-4 PM Monday-Friday. Trethewey House Heritage Site is operated by Heritage Abbotsford Society, a registered non-profit. Our mission is to collect, record, preserve and share the stories of Abbotsford. We offer a range of programs and experiences including site tours, exhibits, historical Abbotsford walking tours, and more - all by donation. The Heritage Site consists of Trethewey House, Joey's Playhouse, the Upper Sumas Train Station, a Heritage Gallery, and the Sylvia Pincott Heritage Habitat Garden. Trethewey House was built in 1919-1920 by Joseph Ogle "J.O." Trethewey. As President of the Abbotsford Lumber Company, J.O. was responsible for leadership of the company during the company's boom years in the 1920s. The House is built in the local Craftsman style and was constructed using primarily local materials, making it distinct from other buildings of similar age within the City of Abbotsford.

There is definitely a spirit in this house. Can't confirm if it's a friendly one. This place is definitely haunted. Visit at your own risk. SCARY.

While we can't confirm or deny the presence of any ghosts in our house we assure you any spiritual presences here are very friendly!

We arrived late in the day. A very accommodating guide showed us around the house and museum. Knowledgeable, friendly, and interesting bit of history. Thank you!

This is SUCH a great place to go with the kids. Such rich history presented in a fun way. They also have this really cool app for families to play - Agents of Discovery. My kids and I walked around while playing this fun and free (!!) app to learn about the history in an engaging way. Very cool. Highly recommend Trethewey House for the whole fam!

Going through this property was like going back in time. It was a blast from the past. We had someone take us through and explain a lot about the house and the history of it. The grounds outside are gorgeous

No understanding of the history of Abbotsford is complete without a visit to the Trethewey House Heritage Site Museum. In it you will discover the importance of this prestigious family's lumber business and its impact on the development of the region. The house itself was 'state of the art' in those early days made possible by the wealth of the family.

A fantastic place to learn about the history of Abbotsford - the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the house itself has been beautifully preserved.

What a gem! We visited this August and had a lovely tour of the Trethewey House by a lovely lady who works in the Archives next door! Be aware of their limited hours that these tours are available, but well-worth planning your trip around them. The house is gorgeous and so-well preserved and set up! It was like stepping back in time. And, we learned a great deal about the local history too!

This old house was the family home of very prominent local family. In its time, it was a revolutionary building with forced air heating, electric lights in every room, and numerous other features that we now accept as routine, but in 1912 ... this place was innovative. The photographs of old Abbotsford are fascinating. The house is located at the side of Mill Lake Park which is very popular venue for a family walks.

If you're interested in early life and industry in Abbotsford this is a good place to start. This heritage house museum helps tell the story of the Trethewey family and the mill that supplied much needed lumber for building this town in the country. The MSA Museum Society operate this facility on behalf of the City of Abbtsford as part of their mandate to serve as the memory of the community.
