We arrived very early on a beautiful day. Sunny with temps in the 60s. It was so nice to wander around the stable area, watching the staff do what they do in such a positive spirit. You could see they love horse and love what they are doing, albeit very physical work.
The horses were well cared for so that only made the experience better knowing they were living out a great life.
The ride is beautiful along the Bow River. Very easy for any type of rider.
The only thing I felt might have been better was to hear about the scenery a little. I was in the middle and could hear the lead guide as well as the guide at the end talking about the area. I couldn't hear either. It was not a big deal as I was wrapped up in the beauty of the area. Kudos to Cross Zee Ranch!! Next time I would take an even longer ride! Thanks!!!

We booked the 2 hour forest trail ride with Annie as our guide. She's great! We made our reservation with Brenda who informed us that they are not open on Mondays, however, they were able to get Annie to take us out on her day off. The trails are beautiful and the horses surefooted on those narrow pathways. We really liked learning about the environment from Annie. That helped us to understand what we had already experienced on our hikes earlier in our trip. The horses are fun and obedient and for the most part get along with each other. Winnie - you are a spirited gal - thanks for the great ride.

This place is awesome. It’s a beautiful place in a spectacular area of the Canadian Rockies.

Brenda was great in helping schedule our ride. We chose the 1:30pm ride that goes for 2 hours. We could have easily gone longer but this was the longest ride option. An hour would not be enough for me. But if that is all you have, make it happen

Annie was our guide and she was awesome. We really enjoyed her leading and her information. She has knowledge of the flora and fauna, as well as the region. She is well versed around horses and her love for these creatures is evident. Annie was really friendly and we joked (but not really) that we have a date in two years when we come back up.

Annie rode Buck. My husband rode Ernie and I rode Winnie. Our ride was on a Monday and it was just us on this day. Such a treat.

All horses road beautifully. We rode across narrow trails along steep hillsides as we made our way into the forests up the mountain. Beautiful trails thru dense forests, winding in and out of the trees, and tons of green on this ride. These horses gingerly hooved over rocky terrain, up and down, and confidently walked these trails. It was awesome. They responded well to neck reins and were so well mannered. Despite the trail being quite narrow at times, these wonderful horses didn’t rub us into trees, or bump us into branches as we made our way. We did have plenty of branches and leaves to avoid, but honestly having that made the experience even more special. It was a reminder of how wonderful nature really is.

In such a natural environment, there are wonderful things to witness. We saw a doe laying in a meadow. We stopped to watch and enjoy. The deer spooked and bolted out, and we watched a couple more deer join her. We hadn’t even seen them in the forest. Our horses spooked when the deer spooked...a reminder of how sensitive horses are. We laughed that they were like dogs...loving and happy. But they had the balance of cats, and spook easily. So true.

So to anyone riding horses, here or anywhere, remember to be mindful that you are riding and should your horse spook, you gotta stay on! Which we all did...we have some serious time in the saddle.

We will be back to Cross Zee. As many times as possible. We loved every bit of it.

I would highly recommend taking a horseback trail ride whilst staying in Canmore. It was a great way to be immersed in nature. Our guide Hayley was knowledgable about the wildlife and local area and is a highly experienced rider/horse woman who made us feel at ease heading out on the ride, especially as one of my two sons had never ridden before. We had a enjoyable 2 hour ride and next time we visit Canmore will definitely return to Cross Zee Ranch 😊 Thanks to the guys and girls at Cross Zee Ranch for a memorable visit.

My two children and I had a great trail ride with Annie. It was obvious that she chose the horses for them specifically, and she was a wonderful guide throughout our ride. She stopped when we needed her to, pointed out animals and animal habitat, and was really friendly and competent! We are so grateful for this memorable first-time riding experience in a simple, beautiful forested trail. Highly recommend!

My family of 4 enjoyed our 1-hour trail ride through the woods. Annie was a great guide & pointed out sights along the way. Our horses were very well behaved and seemed to enjoy the ride as much as we did! What made this an awesome experience is that we were the only 4 people on the tour :)
Shout out to Brenda who was very communicative and accommodating, and moved our ride earlier in the day so we would beat the rain!

We did the one hour trail loop with our children who had never ridden before. Our guide was fantastic at making the kids comfortable with the horses and they were thrilled to ride alone. Horses were in good shape and very gentle and well behaved.
We rode on a single file trail, there were some nice views of the mountains but much of the ride was within the forest. Our guide pointed out wildflowers and other flora. We also saw 2 elk on our ride which was a treat!

Booked by calling the day of and they were able to accommodate on short notice. Also the groups are small (6max) which is nice.

We are a family with no horse riding experience and chose Cross Zee for its proximity to Canmore where we are staying. This was a great choice. They were helpful on the phone to take the booking and really friendly when we arrived. We chose a one hour woodland trail. Our guide Annie was really friendly and knowledgeable and the combination of Annie and the horse had us feeling like pros and we rode through the woodland trail. She pointed out wild flowers, bear scrapings on trees and wildlife as we went.
This really adds to our Rockies experience and gave us a morning we will never forget. Great fun, great guide, great surroundings and setting.

Miranda was our guide. She was wonderful.
My daughter had been taking lessons for about a year, so this was a definitely something we wanted to do. We did the 10am, 1 hour ride.
My horse got a little jumpy in the middle of the ride, then toward the end, she came to a stop, laid her ears back, and looked off to the side. I followed her gaze, and there was a bear on the other side of the fence. Fortunately, it was just going down the fence line away from us. I was last in our group, and was saying "Bear, bear", so my hubby looked back and relayed the info. I managed to raise my camera, a real one, not a phone, and got a couple of shots. I was worried about having to grab hold if my horse decided to take off, but she was a pro and stood still. It didn't take much for me to urge her on and catch up to the others.

We did not completely escape the road noise, but it was a great ride. I would definitely recommend it especially if you are staying in Canmore.

Alicia was great, showing us the sights and making sure we all knew how to manage the horses. The horses were all friendly and very easy to ride. Trail was straightforward, some inclines but not too bad.

I'd recommend this to anyone. Don't forget to kiss your horse and tip your guide!
