Tour guide Becca, will take you on a very educational, historical and adventurous 4km journey/2-2.5hrs up a frozen lake canyon that has risen from the earths chambers below. It was amazing with the wildlife and ice structures. Tour was with ‘Discover Banff Tours’ and they...More

Chose to walk this without a guide which I’m glad we did, but when I got to the waterfall I wasn’t sure we had made it yet. So we went left and up to the open canyon where the caves are , but in winter...More

There's a waterfall, bring the right shoes tho !! It's rocky. But still a great walk and nice views ! Don't go there with babies or young kids, it's too risky. Maybe bring some trekking poles if you feel more comfy

When I researched the place, it said hiking was for beginners, but not a place I'd go for my first hike ever. Ice cleats at this time of year are A MUST, or walking sticks. Save pictures for resting spots. Leave camera in bag as...More

We did about a 2 hour hike and some parts were a bit challenging, depending on your capabilities. Once you get in to the canyon there are quite a bit of rocks so you need to wear the proper shoes.

This was one of our last hikes in Canada. Once we found the path, the trail was easy to follow. The rocks were huge, and the bed was dry. We took it all the way to the end to see the waterfall. It was so...More

Grotto Canyon tour is very close to a big industrial facility, and that was a disappointment. Once you do pass that area, it is definitely a nice hike, but I would say nothing really special. You can spend your time in that area with more...More

Excellent ice walk. If you go make sure that you take ice cleats with you. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

This was so cool to walk on the frozen ground water in the Grotto canyon bottom...looked like a frozen creek with cliffs and forest on either side. 4 km round trip walk with little elevation gain. The ice cleats sure helped. When we reached the...More

This winter hike was great. I am still giving it a 5 but the first km you’ll hear a lot of buzzing from the mineral processing plant. We had our crampons, hiking poles, and dressed in layers. There were quite a few people on this...More

As you are walking up the canyon, they will be on your left side as you enter the last section of the canyon right before the waterfall. They really are easy to miss...we had them pointed out to us!
