Very nice area to walk around and see the town. Looks like the town has done a lot of upgrades in the downtown core.

A good historical and practical overview of the Rideau Canal system. The centre provides an excellent historical context of the canal system from conception, construction, usefulness and current day functioning. Well worth the visit as a focal point for understanding the canal and then exploring other locks and locations on the system.

It's an odd museum. Don't expect to see anything of the original mill structure on the inside. Rooms have been all plastered over. exhibits are the usual story of the canal. Other Lock museums do a more authentic job of telling the story, like the Merrickville locks. The look out from the 4th floor is nice, but very hot on a sunny day. We enjoyed the 360 degree view though. As a bonus, it's free - at at least "taxpayer funded". Worth a stop if you haven't been to any other canal museums.

A nice visit Top floor not finished but looks like it will be nice. Also a viewing level at the very top. Interesting with some nice displays. Free! Can’t beat that!

A very nice museum with alot of historical information regarding the canal and the surrounding area. Although it is small, it is well worth the trip.

The visitor centre is in a lovely old stone building. Over three floors you get the entire history of the Rideau Canal. After you learn the history of the canal, walking along it or sailing on it takes on a whole different meaning.

The building the Information Center and Canal and Lock museum is housed in is beautiful. Greeted by very friendly and informative staff. The displays were limited with a couple under restoration. Not a lot of historic information on the actual construction of the canal system. Film in basement was more informative still limited. Was very disapponed with the lack of Smiths Falls history pertaining to the canal and locks. View from top gives a good perspective to the geological lay out of Smiths Falls. If your stopping by for travel information take a look.
