Our party of four adult cottager arrived at Canadore College without an appointment to see if we could make a date to tour the Apiary. We were greeted by Beekeeper, Peter, who was able to share the miracle of bees with us after a short wait. It is recommended that you call ahead to book!
Peter showed us a slide presentation, answered all of our many questions, allowed us to taste various honeys and took us to the apiary to see the hives and the bees. We even got to hold a live male bee! Peter is very knowledgeable, well spoken, personable and patient. If you have a spare hour or two make this a visit when you are in the area.

I have had the privilege of observing the apiary for several months now. There is so much we can learn from these intelligent creatures! The information provided by Peter and Laura is quite thorough and fascinating. I learn something new every day! I recommend this tour for people of all ages.

This is an excellent, free tour of the apiary. There were only three of us but Peter gave us a very informative introduction to bees and how their honey is made and collected. We even got to hold a live bee! (Male, no stinger, but still...) I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in bee keeping, or just nature in general.

Our group of 5 ranged in ages from 4 to 90 and we all had a great time learning something new, tasting honey and visiting the hives. It was a wonderful activity for the whole family and we highly recommend a visit. The jars of honey that you can buy makes a great gift to bring back home.

Even (6) says our visit was “a sweet visit”
Fiona (3) says our visit was a happy visit
Derek (almost 7) says it was a very good visit and that he learned a lot.
Grandma and grandpa thoroughly enjoyed the visit too.
The photos were very helpful learning tools and the hives were fascinating for the little ones. Being around buzzing bees yet not being afraid and learning how important that activity is for everyone’s food sources was a wonderful experience for the little ones. The tasting was a big hit and seeing the extraction of the honey from the honey comb created an excited “buzz” and chatter all the way home.
Derek thought that the “ honey school” was a super thing to do on a summer day

Regardless of age I would highly recommend this incredibly interesting tour which explains how the Honey Bees work tirelessly gathering nectar to produce our delicious honey and so much more. Tons of great information along with the Bee Keeper outfit that lets you get right in with the Bees and watch them at work not to mention delicious honey to sample and take home ! 10 out 10 !!

As part of a White Squall Girls Getaway, we enjoyed our experience at Canadore College, where we learned about bees and honey. It was very informative and well presented. We were able to get up close, very close to the bees ;) and sampled the fruits of their labour. I would recommend this to everyone.

Hi, sorry for the delay. Yes, you can bring your dog. However, for part of the visit that is inside, you can leave your dog outside (in sight of where the presentation is), perhaps on the deck. Thanks,
