We stopped here on our trip from Vermilion Bay to Winnipeg.
After paying C$12 for 2 seniors, we self-toured the 2 floors, beginning with the special exhibit on the 5 Internment camps for WW 11 German prisoners. Further on, we learned about the Inhabitants back to 6000 BC, fur trading, discovery of gold in the late 1800’s along with the construction of the CN Railroad(shipment of lumber, flour, fish and blueberries), and areas full of old photographs and historical items; 1897 Piano Box Buggy, 1903 Singer sewing machine, 1936 Evinrude motor, 1946 chainsaw and much more. Very impressed.
Now off to pass the 1905 City Hall and see 40’ Husky the Muskie from 1967.

Wonderful quilt exhibit was on when we went. What a range of styles!
Really liked the displays relating to Indigenous beading and handicrafts and the way the displays covered different sectors of the community other than the wealthy. Books and cards in the gift store looked good. The art centre across the way is worth checking out too also with a good gift store.

I've been a number of times with family and my children and as a young person myself. It's a great place to learn the history of our great little city on the water.

The museum is located at the south end of main street in Kenora. Inside you will be treated to the rich history of the Kenora area. The attraction is very well done, especially for a small town (city). I am a local resident and I visit it annually.

Having been to many small town museums before, I have never bothered to check out this museum. This time I was drawn in by a poster highlighting a temporary exhibit on the jingle dresses some indigenous women wear. By my calculation a museum that isn’t just telling the history of European settlers deserves a chance. While I found the Jingle dress exhibit so captivating that I ran out of time and energy to view the rest of the museum, it looks to be a well told story too that I will hopefully get back to see one day. If you are in the area, I recommend a stop here.

Excellent little museum. I loved the booklet used to read throughout the attractions. It was cheap admission rate and a gret way to spend a few hours of the day.

The Kenora museum is a wonderful place to tour around and see some of the history of the area. The volunteers and staff are happy to chat and have loads to add. The new addition of the arts side to the museum will make this a must see location.

One of the coolest smaller museum I've been to. It's laid out very well. It has a lot of interesting pieces that you will not find in bigger museums. A must see if you are in kenora and looking for something to do on a rainy day.
