Of all the years I have been visiting Yarmouth, we have never visited the Art Gallery before. It is a small art gallery, but has a good selection of paintings. We were mainly interested in the selection of Maud Lewis paintings which was nice to view. I know there are a several excellent artists in the Yarmouth area, but unfortunately, this gallery lacks local artists other than the Maud Lewis paintings. Oddly, we viewed a better selection of local artists at a gallery (free admission) on the waterfront where they were sold.

Although the website said it was open and the regular sign on the door said it was open, a handwritten sign taped to the door said it was closed today. Very disappointing.

Currently Maud Lewis on display. Intersting, small spaces throughout. Staff is great. Free on Thursday evenings! You will find neat things in tiny gift shop. Go.

In an historic building in downtown Yarmouth, this gallery has some of Maude Lewis's works. She lived and worked nearby in Digby and Marshalltown. If you go to see her original house in Halifax, you can get a free ticket to this museum as well.

This small, cheery gallery has several rooms, including a small collection of Maud Lewis folk paintings. I was happy to find that the person at the desk was familiar with Lewis's work and life. We had an interesting discussion about the film Maudie, the new book on Lewis's life, and some of the recollections on Lewis from people who had known her.. The staff was also helpful in recommending places to eat nearby. Definitely worth a visit!
