A very large park with a reservoir in the middle. Lots of hiking and cycling trails. There are benches here to sit, but they are not as often as it would like. There are several interesting points, but by the time you get to them you will get tired, so this park is more about active recreation or just walking around to relax from the city. Overall, a very nice place... Both my wife and I agreed that we can endlessly make photos(me) and paint(she) pictures because it has a lot of interesting "small nature spots". By scanning QR-codes on some of the wooden posts you can open a map of this park with directions and paths.
Definitely worth a visit. We spent half a day in this park. And there is free parking at the entrance to the park.

Victoria Park is a magical place within an urban area. Lots of signage so you don’t get lost. There are still sections of trails closed due to spring storms but plenty of others to explore. For those that like stairs, there are plenty to climb to get to different vantage points for viewing the waterfalls. I saw a mother and baby deer munching without too much care for people. There is plenty of parking except when there is a large event at the bandstand. A must see for visitors to the area.

Nice spot for a picnic lunch with playground for kids to run and play and lots of nice trails for hiking. Bathrooms available. We used it as a place to stop for lunch on a longer road trip and it worked out really well for our 5 yo and 7yo to run off some steam and for us parents to take turns getting some quiet time in the trails, then we tackled Javob’s Ladder together as a family before hitting the road again. There was an outdoor pool too that looked nice but was closed when we were there

We had a beautiful day in the park. Unfortunately the Jacob's Ladder trail was closed due to previous heavy downpour. We still went for a short walk then had some icecream and listened to some down home music at the bandshell.

Dynamic 130-year-old park featuring a hemlock forest, a gorge, winding river, and a waterfall where you can hike, cycle, play tennis, go swimming in the heated outdoor pool, cross-country ski, play baseball or listen to concerts and more. The best park I visited in 2 weeks spent in the Maritimes. I climbed the 175 step Jacob’s Ladder, a Biblical reference to Jacob’s flight to heaven in the 1990 movie. The day I visited I saw a deer and 2 small fawn who ran off before I could photograph them. The Park in central Truro is 3,000 acres so give yourself some time.

So incredible. We visited it twice while
visiting Nova Scotia for only a week!
Highlights:
1) Many many kms of trails
2) Some trails are paved, some are dirt, some have lots of wooden stairs - people can choose the trails that suit their difficulty level.
3) gorgeous Joseph Howe falls
4) beautiful trees, cliff sides, rivers, tons of work put into gazebos, boardwalks, stairs, railings, washrooms
5) has a look out (look off) view point
So much beauty and wonderful walks to be had in this place! Stunning!

Great, easy walk to the falls, outdoor pool, playground area and lots of open space. Just some of the attractions. There is a canteen with basic food. Best to bring a picnic. Lots of parking but it does get packed on the warm summer weekends. If you have kids and are in Truro on a warm day, it’s a must.

My visit was before the hurricane and it is a beautiful place to spend a lot of time. There is a lot of walking in sometimes difficult places, but there are alternative routes. We did Jacobs ladder and it was my 75th birthday, so no excuses everyone.

I saw pictures of the park and read the reviews. I only planned on spending a couple of hours there. I actually spent five hours, but had to eventually leave because I was on the way to Nova Scotia. It’s definitely a workout with all the steps, but worth the effort.

How long does it take to reach the falls & return? We’re fast hikers. What is the distance? Would 2 hours be enough time as we’re passing through after lunch headed to Halifax. TIA!

Two hours would be a perfect time to walk the trail up to the falls. Hopefully it has rained a day or so before you arrive to see the beautiful waterfall in action. Enjoy.

We plan to come for the day Saturday from Moncton. Is there an opening time for the park daily or can you go anytime of day? Does it cost? Which waterfall pool would you recommend to let 4-11 years olds play in/swim? Thanks muchly!!!

what are the most scenic trails in Victoria Park. Thanks
Written April 21, 2018
The main trail into the park is very popular. On it, you will pass Jacobs ladder (180+ wood plank stairs), after the ladder you can cross a bridge over a small river (you’ll see a gazebo with benches inside). Or continue on the main route where you’ll come to two sets of waterfalls (upper and lower). Near the back end of the park there’s a loop called “vibert trail” that contains two fairly steep hills that often used for training. Starting at the pool, “hemlock trail” is popular as well.
This all said, you can walk the entire park between 1.5-2 hours.
The whole park is full of well groomed trails, rivers intertwined, and handmade bridges.
All trails are well marked, so don’t worry about navigation.

Are there any ramps/alternate routes to get around the park. Wondering how accessible everything is with a stroller ?
Written September 12, 2016
You can walk to the waterfall and back to the parking lot with a stroller, but to make a circuit you have to do stairs.

I was wondering how many sets of stairs are located in the park and if anyone knows how many steps are on each set. We are planning an amazing race activity and are using this as an activity.
Thank you :)

There are several sets of stairs leading to many different trails I'm not exactly how many, some sets have more stairs than others. One of the main attractions is called Jacobs ladder, and it has a lot of stairs, it leads to the water falls and then back around. I see quite a number of people using it for a good workout.! You might find more information on line about the park. I hope this helps you some.

Yes... lots of people walk there dogs, but they must be on a leash.
