This free museum celebrates North Sydney, not to be confused with the larger city across the water. Who knew-- on the evening of November 10, 1917, residents of North Sydney celebrated the forthcoming end of WW I because the local telegrapher had received the news from Europe of the imminent signing. This museum is jammed full of displays all pertaining to different aspects of local history... fun place to get a feel for the area.

The museum had recently moved into the new building. Many historical pictures and some artifacts to look at. Right on Commercial Street so a good way to spend some spare time, and you can grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants.

The whole "museum" is really one room that you could visit in about 20 minutes. But I only got 10 minutes because the guy at the desk announced that his promised student volunteers had not shown up so he was taking his lunch break. Well, it was free and I guess you get what you pay for. The exhibits were somewhat scattershot and the curation was more enthusiastic than professional. Only visit here if you are REALLY interested in North Sydney history .

Lots of cool artifacts ,lots of hands on items,a wide variety of artifacts...my favs are the Trans Atlantic Cable items and the antique fire engine. Very knowledgeable tour guide. Right across from the Black Spoon Restaurant and shares a building with the local library for Internet access.

As a local, I thoroughly enjoyed looking through the old photos and getting an insite into what the town was all about back in the 1800's. A seaport, rich in exporting and importing the town was a thriving, prosperous and beautiful town. Well worth the visit and the staff is extremely helpful.
