I travelled few times with BC ferries. This is probably the most reasonable way to travel between BC mainland and Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands. I like the idea of taking your vehicle when you need or you can be a foot passenger. For foot passenger you don't need to wait in the long queue to get in the... More

I love driving or walking on the ferry. It's so west coast. The scenery is outstanding, especially on a clear day. If you are lucky you can catch a glimpse of a killer whale pod in the water along the ferry. Pictures don't do it justice, take a trip on the ferry you won't be disappointed. Lots of food selection,... More

Dear mitchcm1, Thanks for your thoughtful review. We would have to agree: BC's coastline is an outstanding sight to see - and one that should definitely be enjoyed in person. We have plenty of comfortable seating areas on board and large windows for viewing. Travelers regularly catch glimpses of 'the locals', including seals, sea lions, whales, eagles and more! It's... For anyone travelling from or to Vancouver Island the BC Ferries are a nightmare of delayed or cancelled sailings coupled with ever increasing fares that are making it next to impossible to travel

BCFCustomerCare, Customer Service Representative at BC Ferries, responded to this review

Dear Pat B, Thanks for reviewing us. I regret to hear that is your impression. Sailing delays are actually quite uncommon for us: 88.9% of our sailings in 2016 left on time or within 10 minutes of the scheduled departure time. Sailing cancellations are rare and are generally caused by extremely adverse weather. Passenger safety is our number one priority.... More

We ride the ferries twice weekly most of the year. Unless you are able to/prepared to fly on one of the local small airlines BC Ferries is the way to travel from the BC mainland to Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands. Being as large a service as they are BCF uses a range of vessels from the older smaller... More
