This is a great museum and it's cool that it's right next to the railway line. But the railway line is active so the entrance to the museum gets closed because very very very long trains are going passed. We got stuck on the way in for 10 minutes (see photo). But we didn't get stuck on the way out because if you look at the map there's another access which doesn't get stopped by passing trains. So if the access from Long Avenue is held up on the way in or out, use Track St East off Townley Street. We did that on the way out and maybe 30 minutes later drove past the main entrance to see the same cars still waiting for trains to pass...

My husband and I went there yesterday and it is an interesting museum with local history but I just didn’t think there’s much else to see. Compared to other small train museums I’ve seen it didn’t have much about trains and I do think the price was a bit high for what you get.

Interesting place if you like the history of the railway. Good exhibitions , followed by some large locomotives inside and some more in the yard beyond. Small gift shop and good wash rooms.

Get a real sense of Canada's early railway history with a quick visit to the museum. Lots of photos of yesteryear with text. And a huge, I mean huge, steam locomotive inside together with what I think they called a parlour car. Also some aged rolling stock in the museum yard...you can able through the caboose. Well presented displays - kids would love it. Also a nice little film on continuous reel with oldtimers telling their stories of how to run these behemoths. Well worth a visit.

I’m so not into trains however I spent 1 1/2 hrs here. What a great place! It was so interesting to read about how important the rail is to Canada and the interesting history on the porters and the building of the rail lines. I would definitely come back!

Roughly how much time would plan to spend here?

Revelstoke, Canada
We recommend at least an hour but it can take up to 2 hours, or more, if you take in all the exhibits, ride the simulator, talk to an engineer, and watch the film in the theatre. You can also bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in our back yard beside the main line tracks - great place for the kids to run too! Hope we see you soon!
