I've walked various parts of this trail three times. Always something different. The trip around the city includes various vistas, but is always flat, and I have yet to find a narrow area where passing others was difficult. You can plan your trip in segments, or simply do different sections on different weekends. Walk or bike - this is a workout!

It's a 25-28km. trail consisting of mixed surfaces including pavement. It runs through various parks and urban settings and along the dyke of the Fraser and Pitt rivers. There's beautiful views of the mountains from the dyke.
A mountain bike or a commuter with some tread on the tires is recommended.

This trail takes you around the perimeter of the city where you’ll encounter paved, gravel and dirt trails. You’ll also follow the river through a densely populated forest. Most visits you’ll see wildlife too. Bear, deer, many varieties of birds etc. Absolutely love this!

Love biking riding and walking our dog here. Only wish there was a clean, water fountain along the path as in the summer it gets super hot along this path so if you don't have any water with you, your a long way from being able to access any. The river so alongside can't be drank. Watch out for parks people, they will give you a hard time if your dog isn't on leash which really makes no sense in a park this size. Dogs should be able to run freely and cool off in the water if they can.

With my wife, and two boys of 8 and 5., we start at 1:30pm from Colony farm and heading south at Citadel river side... Spent total of 7 hours to finish the Traboulay-Poco trail. If you like you can stretch it even longer and fully enjoy all kinds of different experiences along the trail.
There are so many places worth to stop and to enjoy the water and snack break. We had the first long break at the MacDonald nearby Costco, fully recharged, then back to the trail. Finally, wrapped our day trip at Poco Downtown's well known ice cream shop :). Motivated by Junk food and cones of icy sweets, plus the road trip fun, the boys never got bored.
It is definitely one of the few highlights of my 2020!

Easy, mainly flat with mixed ground - pavement, gravel, packed dirt trails. Usually well populated. Black bear sitings are common on the south side on the dyke in the summer (lots of blueberry farms and wild blackberries in the area). I’ve never had an issue. Respect their space or skip this part (stay on Lougheed to Coast Meridian and rejoin at Coast and one street past Laurier-look for signs)

I have previously reviewed this trail. This is just a heads up that a section of it is closed due to trail improvements in the First Nations section of the trail. Here is a picture of the suggested re-route. The rest of the trail including Colony Farm is open.

This trail circumnavigates the city of Port Coquitlam and follows next to the Fraser, Pitt, and Coquitlam River and Hyde Creek over about 80% of its range. Most of the route is away from cars and picturesque. I typically ride my bike, but walkers, joggers, and horses are also welcome most of the way.
The terrain is gentle and the hills gradual. If you are cycling, make sure you are outfitted with a bell and lights for safety as you are sharing this path. It can be particularly busy on a fair weather weekend in parts. The trail is usable year round, but can be challenging on those few days when there is snow on the ground.
You pass through several large parks along the way and there is lots of opportunity for watching wildlife. You may spot a sunbathing otter or a shy beaver in Colony Farm Regional Park. Birds are plentiful there and the recent man-made marsh next to Fremont Village. Watch out for bears during berry or salmon season along Hyde Creek. They mostly keep to themselves, but you do not want to surprise one. Along with the coyotes, there are at least two good reasons to keep your dogs on a leash.
Feeling a little parched? The trail goes right past the Gillnetter Pub and not far from Pajo Fish and Chips in Gates Park where you can catch a little soccer or baseball. You can stop at the new kids play area in Lions Park for the mini zip line, water fun, and other play structures.
The trail connects with the dike trail through the Kwikwetlem First Nation reserve and is currently open for the public. Pay attention to the signs and the requests to stay on the trail. The sheep paddocks trail has been closed for some time west of the reserve, but the Metro Region is working on a three year project to restore permanent access.

Traboulay Poco Trail is about one of the best kept secrets in BC. Long flat rides on gravel with the river on one side and wide spaces to make it safe for both joggers and cyclists. Bicycles to use should ideally not be road bikes as the tires are too thin. But mountain bikes and others can easily be used.
All paths are clearly marked and there are wonderful resting points along the way with laybys to allow for photo taking, rest and whatever makes the trip even more memorable.

An amazing 27 km trail bound by the mighty Fraser River, the Coquitlam River and the Pitt River. The forested landscape spectacularly reflects our west coast beauty. The elevation is fairly flat and would be an easy walk. Check out the trail map at the City of Port Coquitlam and walk the whole trail or pick out specific sections to explore. Bring along a camera, good walking shoes and a little "bear" bell to provide a distracting noise and alert any four footed friends of your presence.

April 2020, is the section in colony farms closed still? Is it still under construction?
Written April 26, 2020
The construction is still there. When you get to that section, just follow the path along Pitt River road till it comes to Lougheed highway. The trail goes west for a little bit then bends to the south back along the west side of the Coquitlam river. You cross the Millenium bridge and you're back on the original trail heading toward the Mary Hill bypass.
