I spent a day with three friends on a boat trip to Jedediah Island with Wes ,aboard Jedediah Daze. We could not have asked for better weather, calmer seas., or a better guide to the area. The day started early with a trip across the water around the south end of Lasqueti Island to Jedediah island, where we anchored in a quiet cove. Following a snack on shore, Wes led us though the woods to the house where he was born, showing us the orchard, where the trees still had some fruit. Sheep came out of the woods hoping for some!
After we had an adventurous hike to the top of the island with magnificent views, before departing for the Lasqueti pub at the north end of Lasqueti...thus completing a circuit of the island After a supper at the pub we motored back to French Creek.
Wes was a great person to travel with. He pointed out all the islands we passed and gave an account of the history including his own time living on Jedediah. It was a wonderful day. We had not anticipated a 12 hr trip and in fact had planned for 6 hrs, but we never had the impression that Wes was worried about keeping to a time schedule. It was overall a wonderful, interesting and relaxing day.

Our family of 10 persons celebrating my mom's 81st birthday spent a "magical" day cruising with captain Wes! Wes was open as to how we wanted to spend our day. First we did a little fishing; then we did a little cruising stopping to picnic on Jedidiah Island. Wes has first hand knowledge of the local Islands and shared as much information as he could with all of us. We visited his house boat before heading to the pub on Lasqueti Island for dinner.

Captain Wes made us all feel very comfortable from the very beginning; he is an extremely competent captain! I highly recommend spending a day with captain Wes you will have no regrets!

We had a very enjoyable trip around Jedidiah and Lasqueti Islands with Captain Wes and his engineer Cole. They were able to find us some great spots to swim, hike and beachcomb. Wes is a great character, able to fill us in with all of the local information about the area that we could possibly hope for. After all, he was born on Jedidiah! Our family loved hearing about his childhood on the island, and swims by his brothers to the neighboring islands. As if we hadn't had enough fun, he was able to spot two humpback whales on our journey back from Lesquite. We were able to observe these from a respectful distance, providing a wonderful end to our great day.

From the moment we set sail at 9am to our return at 9pm, our excursion with the Salish Sea Boating Club was nothing short of extraordinary. The journey from French Creek to Jedidiah Island was filled with anticipation and excitement, and the island did not disappoint. We had the opportunity to explore the historic 1903 homestead, immersing ourselves in the rich history of the area. The search for the elusive Spanish Goats added an adventurous twist to our exploration.

Our Sea Dawg Captain, Wes, who celebrated his birthday with us, was a generous, knowledgeable and engaging real life "Captain Highliner". His passion for his large yacht, called a Monk, and the sea was infectious! He introduced us to the term "the tide is on the make", adding to our nautical knowledge. The camaraderie on board was palpable as we shared a delightful lunch, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the sighting of a spectacular humpback whale, bubbling, feeding and breaching lazily in the afternoon sun. This magnificent creature graced us with its presence, leaving us in awe of the wonders of nature. We also had the pleasure of meeting other friendly boating enthusiasts, further enriching our experience.

As the day progressed, we cruised over to Lasquiti Island, a fascinating little island where the cars are caked in dust, and the locals exude a rustic charm and eccentricity. Here, we savored a fresh cod fish dinner, prepared by the warm and disorganized old (and new) hippies of the island. The shared beers and wine, coupled with the hearty laughter and good cheer, made for a truly jolly time.

The day concluded with a serene cruise back to French Creek, under the canopy of a glorious sunset. The beauty of Vancouver Island was on full display, and we were left with a profound appreciation for its natural splendor.

The value of this excursion far exceeded our expectations. Not only did we have an incredible adventure, but we also made great memories that we will cherish. We look forward to more such experiences with the Salish Sea Boating Club. Their commitment to providing a unique and enjoyable experience is commendable. Highly recommended for everyone, young and old, seeking to explore the beauty of Vancouver Island.

The Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park 4 days tour was unforgettable. Captain Wes is extremely experienced and really knows what he’s doing. His wealth of knowledge to the area has made this trip very interesting. He really loves his beautiful boat. Respected privacy, very attentive and very responsive to what he saw we liked. He was very accommodating and eager to make anything that made us happy. Katie is a fantastic cook and all her food is organic from her amazing garden. It was a wonderful experience swimming in the warm clear waters of the park ocean and lakes, exploring water falls and beach dinghies on little islands, anchoring for the night in beautiful protected calm bays with stunning views. It was fun to stop at Refuge Cove for dinner and shop in Lund. The wildlife we saw was fantastic, from killer whales right next to the boat and majestic eagles right down to colourful star fishes, seals and sea lions. Cougars, bears and wolves are present in the forests. The selection of music Wes chose to play captured the spirit of the Desolation Sounds majestic scenery and was so very inspiring. Bellissimo! A truly beautiful trip.

We had an absolutely fantastic day with Captain Wes. He is passionate about boats, about the area, about the history of the region and most of all he is really passionate about making sure you're having a good time. Rather than going on a commercial boating adventure, it was like a family cruise with an old friend.

Our children loved him, he was amazing with them and he took us to the most beautiful beach we've ever seen in our lives. Our children declared it the best day of their entire lives and we would recommend to anyone.

Our family of 8 chartered a very enjoyable full day of sailing to and around Lasqueti, and Texada Islands. Wes was a very knowledgeable and experienced captain. The ship was very spacious and comfortable, complete with an outside covered deck, inside salon and with dining, lounging, 2 staterooms and washrooms. Highly recommend for an experience you won’t forget.

Couldn’t have asked for a better trip!
Lovely boat to be on while enjoying the sights and information that Captain Wes provided. Wes treated us like welcomed family members. His pride in the environment is apparent as he shares his personal history and experiences. Wes respected the distance required between the boat and the many whales that we saw.
Looking forward to sailing with Captain Wes again in the near future.

Amazing day with Capt Wes. Hes energetic, tireless, knowledgeable and entertaining too.
We toured Jedediah and heard his personal story of his early years on the island. Swam off the beach and off the boat in the bay.
Bring your own lunch, water and a hat to take advantage of a full day (9-9 for us) on the water! Our trip was tailored to suit all on board.
Well go again in a heartbeat!

My husband and I had a perfect summer day with Captain Wes cruising to Jedidiah Island. The boat has comfortable places to relax while enjoying the scenery and we explored several picturesque beaches on the Island while Wes told stories of the island's history. The evening cruise home into the sunset topped off the day.
