We were driving and saw the signs for Laurie Guichon Memorial Grasslands. There are various signs once you get there describing the grasslands, as well as the wildlife. It also educates one about the watershed. It is near Merritt, British Columbia.

The grassland area is named after Laurie Guichon, who was a fourth-generation rancher in the Nicola Valley of the historic Gerard Guichon Ranch and husband of Lt.-Gov. Judy Guichon.

Its a good area for bird watchers. Its also a good area to look for other wildlife.

It is a great place to stop for birders or any traveller wanting to see up close the grasslands environment of the Nicola Valley. A gem!

They will take you to an abandoned property. We went to visitors center and they said it was north by another 10-15 minutes. There are apparently signs but we did not see them on Hwy 5 so not sure if they're on 5A.

This interesting stop is about 9 km out of Merritt 0n Hwy 5C heading for Penticton. There is a display kiosk explaining both the natural and human history of the area. There are restrooms nearby. Several short loop trails take you through grasslands, marsh areas and riparian zone. A great place to stop , stretch the legs, and learn
