We travel to Invermere BC Every year. In August 2020 we took a trip to the top of Swansie mountain with Chris from Play West! We had the most amazing time. Such a beautiful view of the sunset. Chris provided us a light snack. It was a great experience.

The view from the top is simply stunning, but what was described as an "Easy hike for beginners" was certainly not that! I drove up in my SUV, but it was a very bumpy ride, and thankfully only had to pass a few vehicles along the way, because the road is really only wide enough for one. When we finally made it to the highest parking spot, the last 1 km is a very steep hike, slippery in spots, and not for beginners at all. It's fine if you are an outdoorsy person, used to hiking and climbing. My teenager did the hike in flip flops! But if you have any kind of health restrictions or are looking to just go for a nice walk - this is not it!

We had arranged for a 4 wheel drive Jeep so we could drive to the Summit to hike but the road was closed 200 m from the bottom parking lot. It looks like it is closed for repairs from wash outs but there was no mention on any site that we looked at and not explanation on the info board at the base parking lot. Very disappointing as we had looked forward to this for a year. We instead enjoyed a long hike up and back of around 2 hours and great scenery. Just would like more information provided.
Lots of mountain bikers and tough rides!

We (2 adults, 2 teens) had a very fun adventure traveling to the top of Swansea Mountain. We found Swansea Mountain Rd access off of Windermere Loop Road and began the climb. We were in a 4x4 vehicle, which is *required* if you're driving to the parking spot up top. We had our sights set on driving to the top, which was half of the adventure! The road is solid, but definitely has sizeable potholes, grooves and bumps. The hike from the upper parking to the summit is short but steep. Any level of hiking experience can do it. The views from the top are fantastic and worth the drive/climb. Note: do your best not to ride the brakes all the way back down. Downshift and take your time. Very fun adventurous drive, fun (short) hike, beautiful views.

You need a car with a high clearance to make it up the road. The last 100 meters you need to hike but is worth it!

We have been to the top of Swansea numerous times over the years as we will take our guests up the mountain to experience the spectacular views. The road up to the upper Swansea parking lot can be a challenge as the road is mostly not taken care of and there are numerous pot holes, bumps and close encounters with the edge of the road as you ascend to the upper parking lot. Then, there is a bit of a hike on switch backs to get to the top of the mountain. On the top there are numerous view points albeit, there are no fences or barricades to prevent one from going over the edge. The mountain is also a favourite for hang gliding and para sailing enthusiasts. Further, you can also hike from the lower parking lot to the top via trails. Watch out for the occasional mountain biker on the trails wanting to get to the bottom in record time.

2 lots. First is trailhead for full hike. 2nd is within 200m vertical from the top. Fantastic views. Picknick locations and outdoor sanitary facilities.

While not far from the highway, getting to the base of Swansea Mountain does require several "lefts and "rights" on good roads so to speak, so check the website for exact directions. But once there, you'll be glad you did if you're in any way an outdoorsy type. When the snow goes, you can drive quite close the summit, making it only a 1 km return walk. But the views are nothing less than spectacular. So spectacular, one of the users of this summit are local paragliders! But we always have started from the first parking area, and so for us the route to the top and back is around 12 km's. This is one of the area's best mountain biking hills, with stunning curvy trails and amazing jumps. The hiking trails do inter-weave a bit, but the area is VERY well marked, thanks to the local mountain biking community. And you don't have to get to the top for super views, just take the first hiking trails to the lower bluffs. This is a great area for family recreation!
