We rode this Sept 28/20 Rode Invermere to where the trail crosses to the east side of West side road and return. Rolling paved trail with great long climbs with downhills. Great views of lake Windermere. There are switchbacks but laid out really well so you can ride up and down them with ease. The northern end (close to Invermere) appears to be older. Trail is narrower than the south end. Not dangerously so but don’t be cutting corners with your head down. There are a couple access parking lots close to Invermere with toilet and picnic benches. Drive south out of town on the Westside road 13 Ave. There is an older bike trail adjacent to West side rd before the proper start of the trail. well worth the ride!

Great trail for cycling or walking. Now paved the entire way. The north section is hilly, the south section is flatter. Great views. Benches for resting and a couple of picnic tables. Not crowded, even in summer. Remember: this trail crosses private land with some free range cattle so you cannot bring a dog.

This is not a casual "bike ride" but a full fitness workout - and its great! We did it three times in two weeks - it is a 30 km ride from Fairmont to Invermere along the Westside road - the majority is paved path - the rest is roughed in and can be ridden but needs paving. They seem to be working on it sporadically. There are parking areas every few kilometers for those who wish to start at different places. This is not an easy ride - steep sections - both up and down - make it difficult. It is not for children or those who are not regular bikers. Usually we do one way and get picked up in Invermere or Fairmont but have done the full 60 km there and back - takes us about 31/2 to 4 hours - but of course that includes a stop for ice cream in Invermere! Can't wait for it to be completed

Lovely location, tranquil setting and seeing trail from highway looks quite nice. Once you're on it though and away from highway nothing but steeper inclines/declines. I'm just an average weekend relaxed cyclist and I couldnt have picked a worse trail for myself. So be prepared!

We went biking on the trail this summer and approximately 10 of the 25 km was finished and paved. Let me tell you this was awesome. Spectacular views and a wonderful ride. I am so pumped to try this when the full trail is finished to Fairmont. Be aware that this trail is not like the Cranbrook to Kimberly Rails to Trails path which was made on an old train line with gradual slope. The Westside Legacy Trail has quite significant hill climbs and of course the fun descents. I would say you would need at least an average level of biking fitness to make this enjoyable. ***Also a Warning*** some of the hills have sharp switchback corners with significant drop offs on the side of the path. If you are an in-experienced rider or going with young kids, be aware of this because I do foresee people going too fast downhill and unable to navigate some of the corners.

The trail - as of this writing is not finished yet - just the south portion to go and they were working on it as we were there. when complete will allow biking and walking on paved trail from HooDoos to Invermere on the West sdie of Windermere lake. A great idea and look forward to riding the length next year. If you have kids or wish a long ride on a paved trail - this is the place to be! Great scenery - bring your camera!

We biked part of the trail on a weekday before May long and it was incredibly quiet, we only ran into 5 other small groups.
For those familiar with the Legacy Trail connecting Canmore and Banff, the Westside Legacy trail is further from the main road (for the sections we travelled) and also has a few more hill climbs. It is still a very approachable bike/walk and worth the great views.
The trail is well developed with benches, picnic tables and signs along the route.

The trail is nicely paved, and has some portions alongside the road, but mostly winds up, down, and around through cattle ranches and forest, providing beautiful scenery and a great view of the lake and the mountains beyond. You can follow the path on foot, but it makes an even better bike ride!

I have ridden this trail three times now.
In comparison to the Banff Legacy trail, it is much quieter since you are further from the highway. But be aware, there are more hills.
We had a great ride every time!

Beautiful trail. The beginning is quite hilly, best suited to e-bikes or experienced bikers. Really nice for hikes too!
