While in Golden we decided to visit the Wolf Center. One of my kids is an animal junky(loves all animals, and loves to learn about them). We started out looking at the wolves and soon after we started viewing them they started to howl. It was both haunting and beautiful at the same time. After about one of the workers came out and gave a talk about their facility and the wolves. It was informative. We really enjoyed going to visit the Wolf Centre.

I’m glad that this sanctuary saves injured wolves and sets them free back into the nature... However, seemingly quite the opposite occurs at the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Center. Half the wolves have been bred in captivity and they can expect to spend a full life in a cage. I guess it’s an interpretation center for us to better comprehend how wolves act in captivity. It’s not my best spent $12. I wish I could give my $12 directly to the wolves so they can invest in wire cutters to get the f#!k out of there.

My husband and I just had the pleasure of visiting the sanctuary! We are animal lovers and have rescued many animal species ourselves for years. Never wolves. My husband booked the private tour for my birthday and it was the best gift ever! Shelley and Casey were terrific! They have devoted the past twenty years of their lives to the care and conservation of the wolves they have in their sanctuary. It is not a zoo. It is an actual sanctuary they manage themselves. The enclosures were well done. Safe and clean. All of the wolves were in good health and it was apparent to me how much they love Shelley just watching them react to her. We had the pleasure of going on a walk with Flora. Watching Flora do her thing was just beautiful. What a gift it is to be able to enter their territory and learn more about these beautiful creatures! It felt great to contribute as I know the costs of food, medical care and all it takes to do what they do is a tough undertaking. We appreciate those who give up so much to care for our incredible wildlife! We look forward to visiting again when we return to Golden!

This place is AWFUL, the wolves looked sad and they were pacing restlessly in their cage. The owner was rude from the start and she clearly had anger issues. We booked an overpriced 380$ to go for a walk in the wild with the wolves and when we got there she told us we would go to a public area where there might be other people so she would have the one wolf she brought from the cage on a leash. Then she would take her off-leash to have a staged photo session. As soon as we learnt what it was all about we told the lady we were not interested in doing the tour and the walk and that we wanted our money back. she REFUSED to give us our money back (Now I understand why they only accept cash) TOTAL SCAM. We are involved in the protection of the wolves and we visited many sanctuaries throughout the world and Northern Lights Wildlife Center is NOT A SANCTUARY. These wolves were taken and are kept for lucrative purposes. We do not support petting zoos and animal exploitation and no one should support this filthy place. It is a shame to the town of Golden and all of British-Columbia. Even if we didn't even start the tour or the walk she asked us to leave without giving us back our money. We didn't care about the 100$ deposit but we wanted the 280$ that we just handed to her before she explained the content of the 2hour walk. None of the staff were wearing masks inside and she wasn't going to wear one in the car with us so we had to use COVID safety regulations against her in order to get our money back that she basically just 'stole' from us. If ZERO was an option that would be our rating.

We were so lucky to have booked the photo walk tour as we were the only 2 people, along with Shelley and Lola (a beautiful wolf). After a short drive from the refuge itself, Lola was free to roam and we strolled along with her. Shelley had an excellent rapport with her and Lola would willingly return to her side when summoned (I am sure the treats helped). Lola was beautiful to watch as she explored the woods and river, and we were able to see her as a wild creature - no fence separating us. The Refuge itself is worth the visit to learn everything you ever wanted to know about wolves. The resident wolves (all bred in captivity) are easily viewed, but secure from curious fingers. I admit I did spend a fair time in the gift shop. It is not the normal ‘gift shop after an attraction’, but a store committed to promoting education. While there were commercially-made products available, there were also Artisan made products. I am already planning on a return visit.
