This was the highlight of our day, & we couldn’t believe the amount of rare artifacts, stories, and true history that was housed in this museum. The passionate curator was so knowledgeable and truly enhanced the experience. Getting to actually use the player piano was worth the admission alone. Can’t wait to take more people back to this hidden gem. Thank you Lewis for taking the time to share your knowledge with us.

Visiting the HMCS Alberni Museum and Memorial was a fantastic, unexpected surprise. We were welcomed warmly by staff and enjoyed asking questions and hearing some very valuable WWI/II knowledge. There are many interesting and interactive parts of the museum, and it is crucial to keep this history alive and remember the consequences of war.

Detailed displays from WWI to the present. Excellent models, clothing, medals, descriptors, photographs, paintings, memorabilia, personalized accounts. Items for purchase. Books to borrow with a membership. Bob is a very knowledgable volunteer. Open 10-2. Locals who served in the military are noted. Details + great models of HMCS Alberni & the German sub are on display. Well worth the visit - but so hard to realisr how many people are killed in wars.

I was lucky to have an in depth tour of this well curated small museum in Courtenay, BC. Even if military history is not exciting for you, this museum is well worth seeking out and visiting for any history lover. The displays have amazing personal effects and items, letters and stories that convey a truly intimate experiences for all people during WW1 and WW2. I liked the balanced presentations with inclusions of the axis and allies.. and the attention to details brings it to life, including many striking personal drawings and letters of soldiers and families at home.

This is a little hard to find, being down the hallway just off the main street. However, if you like military history (as I do), especially Canada's involvement in WWII, this is worth finding. Compact, but FULL of items relating to the Alberni and associated naval issues. I was surprised to find information on the Murmansk run - for free, no less. Definitely worth seeing, definitely worth supporting.
Free parking available in the area.

Despite its size, the HMCS Alberni Museum is a facinating place filled with real artifacts, detailed models, pictures, and interactive displays. I can with a group of 15 people, and although it was little crowded, we were kept interested for a solid hour. There is a good collection of books based on Canada's military history. The staff was passionate about history and very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this museum to a friend.
