This is a must-see forest area including the amazing waterfalls.
The area is WELL used so could be busy depending on the time of year you are traveling.
Multiple trails offer hikers options for exploring the forest area. The falls is a must-see.
The upper falls is easy to access for everyone. The lower falls is a little hike on well used trails.
Trails are available for hikers that limit bike use and there are many multi-use trails for your bikes!

Wow! this was one of the most unexpected finds in Vancouver Island North. This stunning, easily accessible, kids-friendly nature attraction will win your heart from the moment you step your foot into one of Puntledge River’s swimming holes and is Insta-perfect for any photography enthusiast.
We stopped by for a quick photo and ended up going back to our car, changing into swimwear, and spending a good 3 hours swimming in pools! I have a detailed post about it on my perfectdaytoplay blog.
Swimming in the Puntledge River is unsupervised. Although the waters are shallow, there are some nasty rapids. You sure want to keep your kids close while swimming in Nymph Falls river pools. Life jackets for kids are strongly recommended, and we had our 5yo wearing a vest.
Rocks along the river shore are slippery when wet. Some also have sharp edges. We recommend water shoes for both adults and kids too!

The falls are must to see. But one must be careful. The water flows at great speed. Don't go too close to the falls. Take pictures from a safe distance. The trails are nice. You can pick an oceanside trail or inner forest walk.

Although not a major attraction tourist wise, this walk through the forest and along the river provides another delicious taste of Van Is outdoors. It doesn't take long when you have other goodies to see but it certainly gives one a good look at some rapids and falls (subdued at present by lower flows)and geology as well as a taste of rainforest along with a bit of exercise. Well worth a couple hrs of a nature lovers time.

Great lunch spot or a good place for swimming and paddling your feet. It is very popular but there's plenty of parking. I'd recommend some kind of grippy shoes as the rocks are slippy. The path down there is fully accessible and a very easy walk. Really really impressed

Stopped here when we only had an hour, could have spent 2 hours easily. Nice easy trails, interesting forest cover and full of huge old growth stumps. View of the falls and rapids is nice, probably not a spectacular but well worth the short walk.there are lots of further trails to hike beside the stream and in the bush.

A nice lovely spot to sit and relax and a beautiful swimming spot and the fall are super cool and far out but still be careful swimming in that area because there is a strong undertow in the river. Hey now peace out and have a nice day. Enjoy yourself and rock on. Cheers.

Have visited twice now, and wow this place is just terrific. Lots of parking, and short beautiful walk down to the falls. There are also other trails throughout the park, but the falls are the real draw. Some good swimming in spots too, and great sunbathing when it's nice out.

The falls are less than 5k from downtown Courtenay and well worth the visit. The walking trails in are wide and well maintained and the river is spectacular. If you like swimming there are many places to slide into the crystal clear water and many picnic places dot the shores. A great place for walking and swimming your dog also. Very well taken care of and an easy wall from the parking lot.

Nymph Falls is easy to get to and well marked on the road. You may have to park on the road as the lot is small, but it is an easy walk down to the river. There are outhouses about halfway down should one be required. The falls are lovely and there are about a dozen different spots where you could walk off the trail and set yourself up for an afternoon of splashing around. The water is shallow and there are lots of neat nooks and little “islands” to investigate. Dogs are allowed off leash but every one we encountered was very well behaved. It is popular so be prepared for a good crowd. The water is not as cold as we expected. We easily spent 2 hours there and could have happily stayed longer!

Can we (easily) park a travel trailer in the parking area while we hike?
Written June 29, 2019
The parking at the top level of the falls is ok for your needs. It is a short walk to the falls, with washrooms close by.

I'll be visiting mid June this year, how can I expect the weather to be around this time?

My dear friend Nymph Falls is a phenomenon of nature. Due to its unique geographical make up there is a micro climate which always ensures that it is far cooler than the rest of the area. If you are visiting in June ensure you bring plenty of warm waterproof clothing. Dress as you would in early winter.
Take a thick sleeping bag and an insulated tent. Take matches and inflammable liquids in order to make your own fire at night. The hunting is good and you can expect to live like a king eating the local creatures.
If you encounter a bear obviously shoot it if you have a gun. If you have foolishly forgotten your gun then run like the wind without screaming. Happy trip and good hunting my friend !

What is the geological base of this area?
Written July 1, 2018
If I understand your question correctly, the river itself flows out of the Coastal Mountain range, from Wikipedia is some additional information:
The Coast Mountains are a major mountain range in the Pacific Coast Ranges of western North America, extending from southwestern Yukon through the Alaska Panhandle and virtually all of the Coast of British Columbia south to the Fraser River.

how long of a walk from parking lot to falls... thank you in advance
Written September 14, 2017
Hi Karen,
Park in the main parking lot (on Forbidden Plateau Rd) and even at a slow pace, it's no more than 5minutes to the falls.
The guy from Wisconsin who said he parked at a bridge - was NOT at Nymph falls Park, there isn't a bridge ;)!
Nymph Falls is a beautiful place, off leash dogs allowed which is a HUGE +, mountain bikes allowed on some trails but walking trails to last all day if you want!
Fantastic place.

Hi
Yes, the main trails to the actual falls are wheelchair accessible. There are a few tree roots to be avoided, it's not perfectly flat as it's in a forest, but believe me - it's worth the trip!
Enjoy.
Written September 14, 2017
There are a few trails where a wheelchair can go but it is limited. Most are not. Roots and uneven trails.
